So I asked S&W about it and this is their reply:
"Hi Beanz2, thank you for your suggestion regarding Smith & Wesson products.
"For 164 years, Smith & Wesson has manufactured high-quality, innovative, firearms for professionals and consumers alike.
"I am not aware of any plans at this time but Smith & Wesson considers customer input a valuable resource, from which to draw on, during the decision making process.
"Your comments are being forwarded to the Marketing Department and appropriate Management Team for review and consideration for future production. Thank You! SWCS"
So either they are playing coy with me, or they do not have a 9 Shield 2.0 in the works.

Why would they bother at this point? I don't think they can even keep up with demand for the current version. The M&P series was over a decade old, and needed an update to correct several issues it had. The Shield still sells like hotcakes.

I have found that the Shield45's texture is not as aggressive as the 2.0 texture which makes sense considering that this is a CC oriented pistol.
I don't, however, think that it is bounds above the 1.0. We don't even know what the design differences are. The Shield 1.0 is perfectly fine in OEM form.Comment

The 2.0 will never make the roster. So........I wonder if they'll keep producing the Shield 1.0 solely for the CA market?"Bye Felicia!" - Said by me, as I looked at Kalfornia in my rearview for the last time, 9/22/17.

They had a press release some time ago when they dropped the remainder of their semi auto pistols that they intended to keep producing the Shield and SDVE lines as-is because of the roster. If that continues indefinitely remains to be seen. But the CA market is probably good enough to keep producing them.
There's so little choice here that I'm sure the Shield sells well and the SDVE is one of the few choices other than Glock and XD.Comment
