Talk to me about used gun.

Just bought a Glock 27 in great condition with night sights and pearce grip extenders. There were even traces of the glock factory copper lub on the slide. Hardly any wear marks in the normal places like the barrel hood, slide rails or slide lock/stop (even the edge that mates with the slide). There was a little wear on the feed ramp but not much. The night sights were a little dimmer then the new glocks in the shop but they were easy enough to see with a hand cupped over them in a very well lit shop. All in all I felt like I snagged a nice used gun.

Here is my issue....I just looked up the mfg date and it comes up Jan/96. I have only bought one used gun in my life so I don't know much about buying used. Could it really be that someone bought this pistol in 96 shot it a few times then 10 years later sold it? Or could it have sat in a factory for a large number of years? How long till a gun is made till it hits the show room normally? I just find it hard to beleive that this gun just sat in a safe for 10 years. Sub guns are not bought to be kept in a safe. They are bought to carry. Even if a LEO bought it as a BUG and never shot it much there should be holster wear right? I mean it would be hard for any person to hold this gun up with a new one and tell which one was the newer one. Isn't the shelf life of night sights only like 7 years? the barrel and frame have the same S/N so it does not seem to be rebuilt. Something just does not sit right with me. What are your thoughts?

Non-gun euthusiasts buy guns and rarely shoot them all the time. Maybe they intended to use it for CCW or home protection and either it didn't work out that way or they bought something else, or a family member convinced them to sell it. Anything's possible with a used gun, but the minimal wear tells me someone may of bought the pistol as a impulse buy and decided later, much later they didn't want it, or wanted something else and sold/traded it.

I've heard of folks sending the slide back to Glock to get the dim night sights replaced with brighter ones, give Glock a call, at most they may charge a minimal charge to certify and recondition the slide or whole firearm.

Congrats btw, there's a Glock 17 in my (hopefully near)future!

I agree with Stanze. Just enjoy the new purchase and give it the life it never had!

I know people who have won guns (events, raffles, etc.) and just throw them in the safe after shooting it once or twice. I like to call this 'fire and forget'.

I recently bought a Smith and Wesson model 39 (9mm) made in the early 80's, that was unfired! Yes these gems do exsist. Congrats on the find.

I have a Glock 23 (.40) that is sitting on top of the computer tower next to me. I bought it 8 years ago when I worked at a range. I have probabley put 500 rounds thru it. I know whenever I need to pick it up it will work. Probably the same scenario with yours. Why don't you just sell it to me and we will both feel better.

I'll second what several others have said. Though not a 'sometime' shooter, I tend to have a gun or two tha'ts at least 5 years old that aint been fired a buddy got me into it years ago- buy two guns, use one to shoot and play, keep the other for future sale, parts gun (after ya' go through the first, then the second), or pure enjoyment for collecting or speculating. But its tooo rich a habit for this poor guy...only worked for me on a couple of 'em, most of my 'seconds' were just tha...used seconds!

My recreational shooter FFL still has a near mint condition DCM Garand from like 1980 that aint ever been fired and my Gramps gave me a shotgun that was given to him in 1950 that he took out and fired TWICE (as in two shots) the whole time he owned it; could never sell it as it was a gift but just didn't like shooting it compared to his other one.......

they are out there......... sounds like you stumbled across one, so I say good for you but dont get your hopes up that that'll happen EVERY time; if it does...you gotta take ME shopping with ya!!!!!!
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered....

well thanks guys. It kinda reminds me when you go to buy a used car, and its a old car, but the odometer says 10K . It just did not feel right. I guess I'll give her a good workout

My dad as a lot of unfired rifles in his safe that hes never fired. I guess after he had me in the 80's he's never had the time to go shooting as often as he did before.

Another thing, although I've never shot a "Baby Glock .40" I've heard from others that have, that it has a pretty stout recoil. This could of put off the first time gun buyer/newbie shooter after his or her's first and possibly only trip to the range. Which destined the gun to the used section when he or she got around to it.
