Cool video about the drop test

A new show on TV called "Testing the Limits" had a segment on drop tests by one of the companies certified to do the Roster drop tests.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

      ...

Maybe I should get my work to start doing safety testing for firearms manufacturers. Testing all the ITE stuff is getting boring.

P.S. I hate dealing with Intertek.

Isn't it user error to drop a cocked, safety off pistol in the first place?

Who's the manufacturer of the pistol in the video? I thought that almost all pistols these days had internal firing pin blocking mechanisms to prevent this sort of thing.

it doesnt matter with a freeflaoting firing pin the hammer doesnt have to fall

as he said inertia will drive the pin into the primer its just a basic design flaw

but back when they designed it there was alot less pavement in the world

It's actually a real problem that can be complicated by user "error". A friend of mine kept a 1911 on top of his refrigerator. Accidentally knocked it off and shot himself in the a**. Fortunately not too serious, but more than a bit embarrassing and painful. Sorry, but before you ask for details, this was several years back before I had any idea what conditions 1, 2, and 3 were, so didn't ask for any details. I suspect he had a round chambered and the hammer down.

Lets just abolish the Roster and keep our guns on lanyards from now on. Is that a fair compromise?

I think going through the whole test even when it fails one part of it already is good to give the manufacturer data on what modification they must do to make it pass the test. It will be just stupid if I was to submit a handgun and money to find out I did not pass the "Muzzle first drop" then on a resubmit to find out I fail the "Hammer first drop". But don't give DOJ that idea, because they may use it to extort more money from gun manufacturers. It's just extortion.

Hmmm..does that mean a 1911 in condition one can go off if dropped muzzle first? That's scary.
