Years back, I rescued a Springfield 1911-A1 Loaded model. The rifling was in poor shape. I just recently got into shooting it and struggled with it's 7.5-8 pound trigger pull. I have a some arthritis in my hands. It did not group as I hoped either and I had a couple different shooters try it. It wasn't just me. Last time I took it to the range, it split the case on some new factory ammo so, I decided to call Springfield.
I spoke with them on the phone to discuss the problems. Customer service said they would email a shipping label and an RMA number. I asked what a non warranty barrel replacement might cost and was quoted ~$150. It sounded very reasonable so, I went for it. I sent the pistol along with a note listing the problem, a fired split case and a couple of targets showing how it groups at 7 yards.
Two weeks and a day later, I got it back. It arrived yesterday and was repaired under warranty! I got a new stainless steel barrel, stainless barrel bushing, new sear, new sear spring and the hammer hooks were cut. It was test fired and they sent me the target. Group size was 1/3 of what I was getting and the trigger feels WONDERFUL! I can't wait to get to the range on Friday.
