    Current approved list

So I go to Buds looking to order a new Buckmark UDX only to find that it is not on the approved list in our glorious state. Apparently (according to my FFL), no new handguns are making the list if they don't have the magical

Well, to reply in reverse order, no not a coma so much as I've been away from shooting for some years, and hence not aware of what the nut jobs have been up to. Good to be back (I think?)

And yeah, I was going over the approved list for Browning today, and the model I want (Model # 051531490) is not on it. Is there any rational reason the new Buckmarks are not permitted, or it just this microstamping nonsense? You guys no doubt already know this, but I saw that not one Ruger semiauto is on the list. What is that about? The Mk series has been around for a looooong time. Did Ruger just decide the hell with it, or are their rimfire pistols super dangerous to the public? Clearly I have some catching up to do.

I have a former boss who left the Golden State for your parts. He now lives in LV, and by now probably has a Barrett (or two). Can't stand that town, but I do envy his freedom.

^ This. I spoke to a shooter at the range over the weekend that was unaware of the roster. I feel like this is something that 95% of the public doesn't know about and we need to spread the word. Gun shops should have a flyer explaining what it is and how it affects the selection of guns that the consumer sees available for sale. The more people in the fight the better.

Couple years back when Kamela Harris was State Attorney General she declared that any change of manufacturing process or parts supplier or parts materials would make a gun that had long been on the List into a new gun and it would have to pass all the new tests and requirements, including the mythical microstamping.

Ruger declared that they were constantly making small improvements to parts materials, suppliers and processes and so were unable to comply with the CA approved list.

Started with Ruger doing some manufacturing changes to their production lines.

Then CA DOJ BOF declared those manufacturing changes made the handguns into "new" handgun types and required Ruger to resubmit everything with required safety features (at first, it was chamber load indicator and magazine disconnect mechanism. later it included microstamping array).

In response, Ruger pulled out of the semi-auto pistol market.
^Only pistol left was the Ruger LC380, because it added after the manufacturing changes.

S&W and Colt had similar experiences with CA DOJ BOF, which is basically why all of their semi-auto pistols were also removed from the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale.

Tesla came out here (Bakersfield) couple weeks back recruiting people for their plant at Sparks. I applied, but no dice

OP, I was just like you till about last fall. Even though I was able to read up on the crazy laws, I was traveling for work so much I couldn't do much about catching some of the models that I knew were going to be dropped at the end of last year.

So, I also read up on how the laws and markets work here for what are called Off-Roster Purchase Rules. I will say the laws are easy enough, but the market conditions and prices paid can be frustrating and time consuming.

This site has one of the best web markets for Off-Roster sales. If you wanted a particular model, you will have to be prepared to pay the secondary market rates and to wait for one to come up that you are willing to drive to. The face-to-face private party transaction must be done at a FFL in person.

I have picked up most of the models I was looking for, but don't ask me (or the wife) what I had to pay for some of them... or the driving around to complete the purchase...

So, if you don't mind all that hassle and can afford it, you can still get what you want. It is an unfair state we live in....

i do a weekly bike ride with a group consisting of a sheriff, four non gun owners and myself. two of the non gun owners are curious about guns. the other two are pretty anti-2A. but i have a captive audience for three hours every week and tell them all about our insane laws - roster, evil features, SB 620, etc... they're actually becoming quite sympathetic to the plight of being a CA gun owner. the sheriff is really cool and thinks CA gun laws are stupid.

isn't this how the colt 1911 fell off the roster? it was a totally safe and legal gun for over 100 years. then suddenly at the stroke of midnight on 12/31/2015 it instantly became extra scary and unsafe because colt replaced a worn out machine that was used to manufacture one itty bitty part of the gun?
