Front Strap Checkering Question

Well I am surprised you don't notice a difference. Most firearm owners simply do not understand the importance of gripping as high to the bore axis as they can.
My sample list is students on the range. The only guys who tend to grip properly are guys with some competition background or who have attended other classes. I rarely see this student.
I would expect if you point it out they notice. But I suggest few who have it done make use of it when they actually shoot.
It has just become the in thing to do.
I believe it does not make a huge difference and there are other areas which could use that attention in labor and money over removing a little metal.

I never stated I do not experience a difference.
It's just not huge.
I did it despite no one else doing it in the class because I could as I was doing all the work.
But I would not have it done on a build.
Huge difference? Put a mini holo on a handgun. Get some aggressive grips. Address the controls and make them more user friendly. Insure the trigger shoe fits your finger length. Sights.Comment

IMHO, it's one of those things that may not jump right out at you like sights or new grips. In my particular case, I knew there was something subtle. When I finally figured it out, it was quite a revelation. 'That's why it feels better!'
If someone is getting their front strap checkered, you might as well undercut the trigger guard. It's a 'since you're already under the hood, you might as well...'
I don't think the point is that an undercut trigger guard is more important than some of the things you mention (trigger, grips, sights etc), but it is being addressed apart from those items.Les Baer 1911: Premier II w/1.5" Guarantee, Blued, No FCS, Combat Rear, F/O Front, Checkered MSH & SA Professional Double Diamond Grips

I see. Well, I guess this is one of those cases where to each their own applies. Your list looks good to me as things that can be swapped out. But, just like checkering a proper undercut makes a huge difference at the base level.I never stated I do not experience a difference.

Edit: For me, that is.Last edited by MosinVirus; 09-11-2017, 8:06 PM.Hobbies: bla, bla, bla... Bought a Mosin Nagant... Guns, Guns, Guns...Comment

The Exfoliator? Yes. It is pretty sweet. I cut the checkering with 90 degree as oppose to 60, so it wouldn't be as deep and not go through all the way. And that is also the reason why it looks scarier than it is. The grip stocks are more pointy than the checkering. They are more aggressive.
But so far everyone that tried it liked it.
By the way, standard 25lpi hand checkering and undercut I got down to 4 hours (with smoke breaks).
That is also my parkerizing on it. It is so freaking simple to do, I couldn't believe it.Last edited by MosinVirus; 09-11-2017, 8:17 PM.Hobbies: bla, bla, bla... Bought a Mosin Nagant... Guns, Guns, Guns...Comment
