In the market for a Browning Hi Power from wife as a wedding gift to me. There aren't many out there but I ran across a 1981 Hi Power Polished SS with a Gold trigger. What is a fair price for one? Apparently ex-law enforcement owned all original with factory grips and adjustable rear sights. Looks very clean like it was a safe queen. Owner has another one for sale 1982 Gold trigger Nickel. Just wondering current values as they are scarce now.

I don't think that's stainless. I don't think FN ever produced a stainless Hi Power for Browning. There were a few made by others but they aren't Browning. I think it is hard chrome which is a very durable finish.
Both are nice guns and for some reason Hi Powers are all the rage right now and demand a high price. As for value I would expect to pay around $1200 for one in a LGS; maybe closer to $1000 in a face-to-face PPT. -
That's a nickel finished Target model. To tell the truth, I don't recall seeing one before although I'd suspect that's just me not paying alot of attention or assuming they're all blued. Looks like it could use a good outside cleaning but other than that OK.In the market for a Browning Hi Power from wife as a wedding gift to me. Whether it's rumor or not I just read in a Sept/Oct 2017 gun magazine that FN is no longer going to manufacture the BHP model. Whichever magazine Massad Ayoob writes for, don't recall the name. If true that means the model falls off roster and any BHP in CA will be worth more.
The target model isn't as popular as the standard issue, and those nickel sights must be a PITA to see. I'd say $800.00.GOA Member & SAF Life MemberComment

If I was in the market for a HP I'd really want a blued version, they are beautiful handguns with great looking finishes. My only HP is a two tone practical, great gun but the all blued ones are classy as all get out and the best looking HP by far.Im a warmonger baby, I got blood in my eyes and I'm looking at you.Comment

Nickel plated HPs were available in the '80s and maybe the '90s.I don't think that's stainless. I don't think FN ever produced a stainless Hi Power for Browning. There were a few made by others but they aren't Browning. I think it is hard chrome which is a very durable finish.

They're "all the rage right now" because for some once they've tried out various plastic handguns, something in steel may feel a lot better. Maybe they're thinking like Cooper in that they feel the HP and CZ75 are the two best combat handguns.
Hard to say for sure as Californias roster tends to cause waves of orders once something new is added to it.
Ayoob used to write for American Handgunner; I'm not sure if he still does. That's a nickel finished Target model. Agreed.

Still my favorite pistol of all time, even after I modernized. i have a 1960s belgian with a ring hammer, my personal 1980s vintage (a gift from Army comrades) and an early Waffenampt German Army Hi Power with a bring back (that still shoots better than any plastic gun, even after being used by both sides in a war.

Jogged my memory - The Ayoob Files is on page 66 of the Sept/Oct edition of AH and the article is "Hi Power Shootings".
At least there are plenty of C & R BHPs out there. Although they will climb too.GOA Member & SAF Life MemberComment
