    Sig P220 Combat ?s

    Hello,
Im curious for those of you that actually own the Combat model. Have you had any issues at all with yours and how many rounds do you have thru them.

Also do you know if the Combat model is made in Germany or USA and whats the differences besides the phosphate coated internals and obvious looks.
I read they had beefier internals but im guess they just meant they were coated?

What is your experience with them. Do you think they are as reliable as the HK USP series?
    Thanks any info appreciated.

I have one and have put thousands of rounds through it. Very reliable. Very accurate. I don't have extensive experience with USP to have an opinion.

The frame was made in Germany. The slide was milled stainless from Exeter. Mine was from 2008. Not sure what the new ones are like.

It is slightly heavier than my 1995 West German P220 with carbon steel slide. Only noticeable when empty though.

Not P220 but my wife has P226 and looks great.

      1k rounds old, no issues.
      Made in NH 2011 (?)
Phosphate internal coating for extra protection against rust.
      Feed ramp is polished.
      Front serration.

I used to own one a few years ago and regret selling it. from what i can remember the beefier internals and possibly the recoil spring (i seem to remember it being braided and heavier) were the two major differences aside from color as well as having suppressor ready sights. the gun was great, never had any issues with it. because of the sight height there was a little bit of an adjustment for point of aim and point of impact but that could have been operator error on my behalf.

it never gave me any issues and took it to a few classes where the most painful part was the cost of ammunition (i didn't really think that part through really well).

can't go wrong with it if you decide to go that route.

Also HK USP was at one time in my arsenal but actually sold that to fund the purchase of the 220 combat. better trigger in the 220 combat but the USP has the ability to be carried (in some configurations) cocked with the safety on much like a 1911. it comes down to what you want. they are both in 45acp, both are extremely reliable. sig can have the short reset trigger put in (highly recommend) usually by a local armorer, hk for their LE trigger you have to ship it out and wait. hk has a polymer frame, the most ruggedly tested one that i know of, sig uses a lightweight metal frame. grips can be switched out on the sig, not so much on the hk.

sorry to go on those are just a few things that came to mind.

Thanks guys a lot of good info. Seems like the Combat is a solid gun. I looked up you tube reviews and most of them just talk about it but didn't see any torture tests. Not that a torture test is needed, just seems everybody is doing one on every gun these days. I assume a 220 is a 220.

Experience with 220 combat, only shot 1, put about 100 rounds through it. I am not that great of a shot but I got decent groupings at 15 and 25 yards. Not a single malfunction.
Belongs to a friend buy I am not sure about the manf date, since many people day older guns are better than current production guns in terms of QC, function, fit, and finish.
                HK USP, I've owned a 40 and 9mm.
                I couldn't hit duck with my 40 but my 9mm was a great gun I hot for a he'll of a deal.
But the whole older guns are better doesn't help outdated guns like mine since they where made before Hk had a slide revision and update making certain parts for my guns out of production so I sold them to buy current production models, that I never got lol.
I've shot a compact USP 45 it's a great gun but recoil was a bit more than 1911 imo. Really accurate but I think I never shot last 15 yards.
I would look into renting these guns, 220 is a bigger and heavier pistol than a regular USP full size.
I would say they are just as reliable. Buy I've seen USP s about 100-200 dollars cheaper. GL with purchase

My 220 Combat doesn't like Winchester Ranger ammo; I'll get frequent failures to feed. Strangely, it doesn't have any problems with Winchester PDX1, or any other ammo, for that matter.

                    Sig P220 Combat ?s

Here's mine. Had it milled to put an RMR on it. It's a good shooter and has fed everything, mostly my reloads.

I will say though that I enjoy shooting my Glock 21 SF more. Less recoil, I'm more accurate with it, feels better overall. And 1/4 of the price of the Sig with the RMR. Just goes to show....

It's a funny thing with Sigs, the trigger really forces you to focus on the trigger squeeze. Any imperfection will show up. The Glock for me doesn't need undue concentration. Just point and shoot. You mileage may vary...

Haahaahaaaa that's funny! I have the P220 combat and an XD 45. I put about 250 rounds thru both and I like the XD 45 better. I enjoy shooting it more. Go figure. I think the 220 is just gonna take more practice. Can be a good thing though, more range time.[emoji23]

So why is the old Sig better than the new Sig if the old Sig had a folded piece of metal for the slide and the new ones are stainless steel? And i dont mean that in a smartass way?
I keep reading conflicting info on which is better. Seems old ones had better quality control and more reliable but the newer ones have external extractor thats suppose to be more reliable and they are also stainless steel?

So whats the scoop? Im also reading here and there that some people have issues with the newest P220s. Is the Combat the exception because it was made for Military or am I wrong and confused?
Thanks for all the info so far guys!

for me it's mostly the issue of quality control and quality of parts. I'm not referring to the slide either. the old ones are made better put together better and have better triggers. everything feels cheaper on the new Sig stuff.

Besides the quality, do you think the design is same and would give the same reliability?
Im curious if this guns can keep up with a USP in terms of durability and reliabilty. Thanks and sorry for all the quesions.

The milled stainless steel slide is slightly heavier than the old folded carbon steel slide. It's less noticeable with a fully loaded magazine.

The old P series had better fit. Take one in your hand and shake it. Vast majority of the old ones would feel like a solid piece of metal. More of the new ones rattle. Although this does not affect accuracy.

The old ones were range tested for accuracy. The new ones were only function tested.

The old ones did not have any MIM parts. They were either stamped or machined. Some people simply do not like MIM parts.

The old ones came with steel recoil spring guide rod. The new ones came with plastic guide rods. Although this does not affect function at all.

The old ones had perfect finishes. The new ones have more cosmetic blemishes from the factory. This is just personal observation. I have a few old ones I bought brand new back then, and some more recently. I also have a few new ones I bought brand new. I prefer the old ones.
