Seller reported firearm stolen from vehicle

i recently did a ppt .. obviously i was not buying the one that he reported. Now dros is delayed.. does that have anything to do with the fact that there's a delay from dros to realease to me.

No... it's just DOJ being DOJ.
Delay is not a bad thing, denied is.

The problem with "Delayed" is that if the delay runs the full 30 days, the FFL *MAY* legally release to you. The problem is, this is not a requirement of the law and many FFLs including Turners will not release. You would then be forced to have the seller come in, pay another $35, and re-DROS.

It's complete BS... confirm with your FFL that they will release on "delay" if it goes 30 days.

Sounds like a seller reported a gun stolen different from what the OP PPT'd still in DROS...?

It's up to the ffl (dealer) to release the firearm it the doj doesn't come back with an approval. If it's after 30 days without approval (undetermined) it's up to the ffl to release the firearm

                clarifying question

i did a ppt with a guy who had recently filed stolen fireaarms from his car in june.
The current one i'm buying is being labeled as delayed.. I guess the question is.. Did having the seller reporting firearms stolen have something to do with the delay. Thanks.

It shouldn't matter but anything is possible with the DOJ

You might be the one "Delayed" unless the CDOJ thinks the seller is suspect.
If the sellers Gun isn't Hot then it should go through. Usually delayed applies
                      To the Buyer.

If you're the buyer, and the DROS is delayed, the DOJ is either looking closer at the gun (they might think it's stolen, etc), or they're looking closer at you (to determine if you're actually eligible to possess, etc.). You'll never know which one it is . . .they won't tell you if you call them.

As others have already stated, once it passes 30 days it becomes "undetermined" and will be up to the LGS to deliver to you or not.

Delays often have nothing to do with the buyer, and can be completely beyond your control, so always ask a LGS if they will release when undetermined BEFORE you DROS anything with them.

I don't patronize any vendors that will not release when undetermined.

                        Good luck OP.

Sounds to me that the seller had reported a gun being stolen prior to this transfer, and that resulted in the DOJ delaying this transfer. I think. Maybe.

OP bought a weapon from John, John had a different weapon stolen out of his vehicle. John reported the stolen weapon. OP got a notice from DOJ that he is being delayed. He is wondering if the delay has anything to do with John reporting a different weapon stolen.

It likely does not, and is just the DOJ being the DOJ

Did that help, or just make it worse?
