    G21SF or XD45? - Experience with both

So I am deciding between the Glock 21SF and the Springfield XD45.

It's clear based off this poll http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=803070 that a majority of people prefer the Glock. I have also noticed a lot more threads about Glocks than the Springfield, which is a clear indication of which is more popular among y'all.

My question is more specific, and am asking if any of you have extensive (or least a decent amount) of experience with both and which you prefer and would recommend to a newbie like me and why?

    EDIT: teflondog reminded me, thanks!

I wouldn't say I have long hands, but I can definitely say they're not small hands. I would average or above average hand size, so grip wouldn't bother me much.

The only reason I would recommend the XD45 is if you have very small hands and cannot achieve a proper grip on the Glock 21SF. I think the Glock 21SF is more reliable and balanced in weight (the XD feels top heavy). I also prefer not having a grip safety.

Add the fact there is a ton of aftermarket accessories for the glock.

In that case, I would recommend going with the Glock. It's much easier to detail strip (useful for replacing parts) and I believe the internal design is more reliable. I also find that the lower bore axis makes sight acquisition faster for me.

I was in the same boat as you before I bought my first handgun. I took both to the range at the same time and put about 100 rounds through each of them. I hated how the XD looked, how it felt in my hands, and the sights. I loved everything about the Glock, seemed perfect for me. But, I was very much on target with the XD, and I could barely hit a thing with the Glock lol. Like I'm sure everyone will say, go shoot em both first.

they're both good guns. glock aftermarket support is fantastic and if you can shoot it well I'd pick the glock for that reason alone. also getting your sights changed on an xd is not really a diy job. I prefer the xd but I stand by the recommendation of the glock.

A coworker brought his XD45 to the range and I brought my Gen3 Glock 21. The XD45 was accurate and shot okay until he opened up a bag of reloads. The XD continually choked on some truncated cone reloads he bought. My G21 didn't have any problems finishing up his bag of 200. The feed ramp is much steeper on the XD which I believe contributed to the reliability problem. Also, I don't care for the XD's grip safety but it didn't affect shoot-ability.

                get the Glock

Both excellent, reliable options. I owned an XD-45 for many years and currently own the G21sf. I'd give the edge to Glock for many of the aforementioned reasons.

XD -45 or G -21 sf can't go wrong with either one.
