    Custom 1911

I want to build a custom 1911 commander that uses 9mm. Can I buy a caspian frame in Ca or am I dreaming? If not what is my next move here...

Dreaming.. get an EMP, or build an 80%. Make sure you do research on building though

You can still buy a Caspian frame via SSE. There are still several FFLs who can DROS it for you.

Or get a gov mil spec, and build on that. Sell the parts you don't need.

This is what I did for my first.. Springfield Mil-Specs pop up on here for as low as $550 if you really keep an eye out. If you aren't doing the work yourself, get Springfield. About the only on roster Mil-Spec that other smiths will work on

If you're going to build one then just do an 80%. RIA sells frames for around $140 with or without a rail.

If was to do this would I ship the frame to the ffl first? I'm not sure of the order in this scenario guys.

Are you personally building it or sending it off to a gunsmith?

I'd go with a Springfield Mil-Spec in this case.. Will does great work!

Doing this is not as easy as suggested.

First find an FFL who will do a break top single shot registration for you.
The frame would need to be simply built up to function... Trigger/sear/disco/hammer/flat spring/main spring housing complete installed on the Caspian frame. Have a Break top upper installed on top of that. Now it can be registered.
The challenge is finding that FFL familiar with this and willing to do it.

It may be easier just buying a complete and selling off all the parts. Contact will and ask him for guidance.

Travel to Fresno and we can two party my never built carbon steel Caspian frame full sized. It will work for a 9mm build. I built 2 9mms already off these.

A Springfield Champion will work. This will be perfect, but it's in soCal. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...light=Champion

Have Will machine the 45 slide to take a 9mm ejector and have him clean up the 45 ACP Slide. Have him fit a new 9mm upper and do his magic. You'll have a 2 caliber Commander, well it's a Champion.

Just get a 9mm High Point and stop being complicated.
