Besides a .357 magnum revolver which as I said is a no brainer, some other guns you should think about acquiring before even thinking about an FN Five-seveN are:
          • a .22 handgun. Or two. Or three. (semiauto and/or revolver)
          • a .22 rifle. Or two. Or three. (semiauto and/or bolt-action and/or lever-action)
          • a 12 gauge shotgun or two (pump and/or semiauto and/or break-action)
          • a 1911-type in .45ACP first, 9mm second
          • a lever-action .30-30 carbine
          • an M1 (Garand) Rifle
          • a Glock
          • a single-action revolver

Get the .357 revolver. Easy to reload and a huge supply of brass in .38 special and .357 magnum is available. Wide variety of bullet weights and design. As others mentioned you can cast your own bullets.

I own a Five Seven, it's one of pistols on my carry permit here in Mexifornia.

For those who mock the stopping ability of the FN , remind me what weapon system did the Ft. Hood shooter use again? How did that work out for his victims.

              20 round magazines stock.

Are you saying it's a great gun because a terrorist used one to kill 13 people in a mass shooting? That's a strange endorsement.

If a terrorist fires 214 rounds even an FN 5-7 could do some harm. Fire 214 rounds of almost any ammo against mostly unarmed people at close range, even .22LR, and you're going to do some damage. Fortunately, 32 people shot with the 5.7 survived. If the terrorist had used a normal handgun round fewer of those who were shot might have survived.

When people were extolling the virtues of the being able to carry more rounds of light weight 5.7x28mm, I hope they weren't talking about how useful that would be in a mass shooting. And in California, they would also need a whole bag full of 10-round magazines so they could shoot those hundreds of rounds.

                Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

It's unfortunate that someone wearing the uniform shot, killed and injured Americans. I heard he had 2 handguns, but it was the 5.7 he kept using. The 2nd gun was a 357 Magnum revolver. After so many years I still dispise the shooter. I have no remorse for him even if he's paralyzed by the bullet that halted his carnage. He deserves the death sentence, although letting him die of old age is better as his wish is to become a martyr of radical Islam. It's better to lock him up and forgotten.

I can't even think of analyzing the murdered and injured for the performance of the 5.7 round. This coward shot 200+ rounds at unarmed men and women. He still had more rounds to fire as he had 200 unexpended rounds found on him. Fortunately a responding officer shot him before he can do more damage.
