Wilson Combat vs Night Hawk customs

Which builds 1911s better and why? I'd like to hear from people with experience with these pistols. Tell me accuracy, fit and finish

About 2 yrs ago I would have said Wilson HANDS DOWN! However, I think NHC has undergone a few changes and are putting out a MUCH better pistol. I have not shot a new NHC but have handled a few of the newer ones. I know some of the kinks that WERE there and how they supposedly fixed them. As for Customer service I am die hard Wilson on that piece.

I owned examples of both. Fitting was better on newer NHC, especially around the magwell and where the grip safety beavertail connected to the frame under the cocked trigger. I can see daylight between the magwell and grip on my Wilson's but not on my Nighthawk's. The transition between frame and grip safety is smoother on NHC than WC.
I shot both WC and NHC nearly equally well. My NHC Enforcer Recon edged all other NHC and WC by a narrow margin, but maybe my Wheaties kicked in that day.
Today I'd prefer a NHC to WC by a small margin. And since each is hand built by both manufacturers, it wouldn't surprise me to see the issues I mentioned reversed. Just depends on the specific gun I guess.
Oh, almost forgot the requisite "use the search function" and "this has been discussed before." Good luck getting some useful feedback. I'd like to see some fresh comments myself!

I'm on the fence but not sure if I should do the Springfield professional, Wilson combat tactical CQB LE, or nighthawk predator?

Hi. Like the man said use the search function. I'd read of problems with nighthawk quality control. Whenever people put wilson in the mix wilson never seems to be beat from what I've read here. Consequently I just got a wilson and it is amazing. Fit is perfect. Movement smooth. When I'm shooting well I get one ragged hole. When I'm shooting poorly I still get small groups. Wouldn't trade it for anything. I also shoot a Les Baer and to be honest so far I like them both the same. The Baer leaves one ragged hole when I'm shooting well. I bet the nighthawk and ed brown would do the same. Where are you located? I'd be happy to let you shoot the wilson and Baer if you like.

If you're debating between Springfield wilson and NH seriously, you're spending a lot of money. There's nothing wrong with the Springfield but if you're going to buy a buy-and-die gun you'll probably like them all the same but ... probably walk with a little more swagger with the wilson or NH just knowing you have absolutely top dog firearm.

Have you considered Guncrafter Industries too? I've heard lots of great things about them but don't have one as yet. I think 1911Whore has experience with them though...cause he's a Hoor like that!

I'm a Wilson fan in no small part because of their service. I know if there is a problem that they will take care of it. From what I've read, this doesn't seem to always be the case with NH.

I can only carry on duty or CCW off duty certain 1911 brands which are Springfield, Wilson combat, nighthawk, Dan Wesson, ruger, smith and Wesson, sig sauer, colt, and les Baer. I narrow down my pick between those 3.

If you are roster exempt then I would think about going custom then if you can and your dept allows it. I would configure a NH or Wilson to how you want it. For me that is where the value of a semi custom shop like Wilson and NH shine. Personally I think they both have different design philosophies and you can tailor which one meets what you want.

I would go through a master deal for both like Migunslingers.com as they can usually get a better deal for both brands and put a custom order for you also.

I'm sure they both make great guns. I would lean towards WC because Nighthawk has a high employee turnover (at least they used to in my experience).

I have both and WCs customer service is better than excellent. They went out of their way to make right on customizing my Beretta pistol. I had an issue with the finish on my NHC, but I had to pay to get it refinished. Shooting wise, they're pretty equivalent, but WC's customer service is what makes them my preference over NHC.

It will be a crap shoot between the actual build of the gun you get, they will both be close to perfection if there is such a thing for a 1911. Then it comes down to aesthetics and customer service. Wilson wins with customer service, proven track record over many years. Aesthetics is personal choice.

I would vote for neither and get a Les Baer. Straight 1911 badassedness (not a word) and none of the fluff. Pistol bags and accesories... Pfft, who needs that. Get a Les Baer and send it in for Hard Chrome (if you don't like the bluing) and come out $1000-$1500 ahead. Don't fall for the hype. Oh yeah, the standard accuracy is 3" at 50 yrds.

As far as customer service, who needs that if your pistol is built right the first time, JK, hahaha . I can attest to Les Baer's excellent customer and he still answers the phone. You can actually speak to the man himself. How many WC owners have spoken to Bill Wilson????

One more thing, if you don't like the pistol, a Les Baer will be easier to move(sell/trade), than a WC or NH. I've seen several $4-6 k 1911s in the F/S section with no offers. Good luck with your decison and safe shooting.
