SA 1911 9mm light primer strikes

Requesting advice on diagnosing cause for light primer strikes with a new to me SA 1911 in 9mm.

I can't even says it's a light primer strike really. Samples retrieved are showing a mild finish scratch. Not really an indention.

Funny thing is if I run it through another gun, I get 100% ignition.

These are my reloads. Factory rounds are firing 100% on the SA.

Advice on what to look for requested. My first instinct is a worn firing pin or dirty firing pin channel.

what primers are you running? i've seen where people have problems with cci stating they run a tad harder than others.

Don't know for sure what's up with yours as it belong to someone else.

That said if wife's 1911 ever starts getting a little lite on P-strikes I fine that cleaning the firing pin & channel work wonders as all this crud seems to accumulate in there slowing forward motion of pin.

But others will chime in for this I'm sure.

Posted soon as I got home. Then went on to disassemble the handgun.

Found the firing pin does not clear the slide when I push it in. I'm guessing it fires mainly from forward momentum and not pushed directly into the primer by the hammer Is this how it's supposed to be.

Advice appreciated. New firing pin? How do I check if it's out of spec? 1911 9mm firing pins standard?

Did the slide going in full battery?

Does the tup look broken? Could be needs a new firing pin spring, firing pin. Could also be parts rubbing in the gun causing drag which slows inertia down.

Broken firing pin? It is a Springfield.

Pull the slide off the gun then pull out the firing pin and inspect the tip you should be able to tell if it's broken or worn badly also check the channel to see if it needs cleaned.

The firing pin does not suppose to protrude when you press it with your thumb.

If you have a snap cap, put a small piece of masking tape on the primer area. Load the snap cap and fire it. Remove the snap cap to see if there is a small indentation on the masking tape.

Had the same problem just this week with my Colt. After close inspection I found the firing pin head had mushroomed and was getting stuck in the firing pin stop.

I had to take a filing stone to it. I finally got it to work but have ordered a new firing pin to replace it.

I actually had the same problem with a brand new Ruger 10/22. I took it out and looked at it. I disassembled it and took out the firing pin. It turned out the firing pin was improperly mailed, I got a new firing pin and the problem was solved

If you decide you want a new pin Dawson Precision sells them for about $8 with free shipping. I needed one for my sig 9mm 1911 so I got one there.
