    .38 special snub nose.

Found this beauty today. Model 10-5 2" barrel. Couldn't help myself. I've always had a soft spot for pre lock smith and Wesson revolvers. This one seemed perfect. Cylinder play was non existent. Trigger seemed good. Looked like it wasn't used very much. Needs to be cleaned and oiled. All in all a great buy for $325.00

Strongly recommend a Ruger Blackhawk, either in 357 mag, or 357 maximum.

You have semi-autos, so no need to play conceal carry games or practice for human hunting with a snub nose double action revolver, or even any double action, as you have semi autos that can fill that niche nicely.

But can any of your semi autos go 100% on steel plates at 100 yards? blackhawk can, with good ammo and good shooter. Punching out X's in slow fire at the indoor range at 25 yards...

For a range toy, a blackhawk with a 7.5 or 10" barrel makes for a great day. And in 357 max you can shoot your 38's and 357 mags all you want, and even step up to bigger power when you want a little more oomph (like a 250 grain 35 cal elk bullet shot at 1700 fps or so). And be shooting that at 100 yards too

And if you want to play with the gun more, there are lots of options, replacement parts, upgrades, or just plain old mounting a good scope base and installing a handgun scope and shooting for scores at 100 yards, much less 25 yards.

Barrel of monkeys, a 357 blackhawk....

I have a S&W model 19 I bought new in the 1970s and a couple of stainless GP100s, 4" and 6". I also have a number of pre-lock Smiths in .38. If someone asked me what to buy, I would recommend the GP100. In my opinion the GP100 is overbuilt and the SS version soaks up the recoil.

As with any firearm, try to shoot them first to see what feels best in your hands and what allows you the most accuracy.

I'd recommend an older smith. If you can find one that's in decent shape. I had a 4" model 10 with fixed sights. Couldn't miss a tin can with that thing it was like a laser! Heavy barrel with wood grips in a nickel finish. Man it was sweet....
.38 special was a soft shooting pistol. I thought I was Dirty Harry or something.
That nickel cleaned up easy and seemed to repel the burnt powder. Hard chrome is a durable finish also.

                    Smith & Wesson or Ruger.
                    can't go wrong.

                    my stable is all S&W.

If you are looking at a revolver mainly as a range toy then may I suggest you consider a 38 Special also. This would open up a lot more possibilities such as the Smith 10, 14, 15 etc and the ammo is cheaper. As others have posted, the 10 is fun and surprisingly accurate, and there are a gazzilion or two of them out there.

Another alternate is a SAA clone from Uberti or Pietta. Both companies appeared to have stepped up their quality and now offer some very good SAAs in lots of configurations. Last year I picked up a Uberti SAA and can't fault the quality at all - especially considering the cost vs a genuine SAA from Colt.

ruger blackhawk dual cylinder 357/38/9mm. built like a brick outhouse. single action revolvers likely will never be legislated out of existence. as obiwan said of a lightsaber, "an elegant weapon for a more civilized age." can handle stoutest 357 loads to 9mm for soft shooting, great cheap fun.

Older smith N frame (pre-lock), or if you can't bring yourself to spend that kind of money, Ruger GP100. Either will shoot 357 all day long. If 357 will only be an occasional round - K frame Smith (pre-lock)
