Someone Please Help! My New Gun is Spitting Metal At Me!!!

Follow up post to my previous thread about my new gun being scratched. Only this one I'm a little more serious.

So I took my new SA Loaded 45 out to the range today. Put 100 rounds through it and it cycled fine. The only thing is on two separate occasions it spit metal shavings back at my face. The first one hit me in the lip and the second time I could actually see the metal coming at me and it hit me in the cheek pretty good; enough to sting.

After the second time it happened I packed it up and went home. I thought to look for the spent casing before doing so but had no luck finding it among all the brass on the ground. I was shooting S&B 230 grain ammunition.

Any idea what on earth could be the likely culprit? I havnt taken the gun down yet as I just walked in the door but I'm curious what I should be looking for when I do. In all my years of shooting I can't recall this happening.

Check your brass for excessive extractor marks.

      New 1911 needs extractor tuning.

Bet those ugly sig and S&W External Extractors are looking pretty good right now?

Seems to be an early consensus.

Can you guys eighten me on what the extractor is doing that causes this? New to the 1911 world and trying to learn.

Elven what's funny is I was so close to going with the Sig on numerous occasions because it was in stock and I was getting impatient waiting for the Loaded to come in. It will definitely be my next 1911 purchase as it sure seemed like a lot of gun for the money.

The internal extractor is the weak link in the 1911

          Often needs tuning.

The other weak link is the Magazines. Used to be only 1 good aftermarket magazine to buy. Now there is like 5 brands. However I still only run Wilson.

          Watch youtube on the extractor.

Thanks. Google also suggested checking the feed ramp to make sure nothing on it is shaving brass off the case when it's being chambered and that is what is being spit back at me. Sound like a likely possibility at all?

Very easy to check if that is it. Disassemble and if you see scratches on feed ramp. Then it needs polishing.

Is it spitting pieces of the spent casings, or the whole spent casing?

Pieces. Almost like shavings but with enough mass behind them to feel a good sting when it hits the face.

                    Insanity.

No way for the extractor to shave brass. The case rides up behind it when feeding. Yet somehow it's tearing off chunks of brass? Silliness.
How in the world could a feed ramp shave brass? You would see the mis-shapen metal gouging and scraping brass off. Heck you would have brass damage just hand feeding.

The only thing I can think of is one, he is shooting steel, or two unburnt powder.
Oh, lastly could always be the troll element. You just never know.

Change your ammo and see if it still happens..... Boom... Solved.

Have seen this once before. What you think is metal could be excess grease / oil flying off.

                        Post pics of shot cases.

Post pics of slide and extractor.

No steel. I was punching paper. I have no idea how an internal extractor works either so I couldn't begin to tell you how that could be possible.

No troll here. I havnt been around as long as you but long enough to not start trolling now. About 50% of the responses in every thread I post are troll like however.

Also, I thought about unburned powder too but didn't think it would have enough mass for me to feel a sting.

I'm out for the night but I'll take it apart and take pictures tomorrow and post here.

I'll post pics of slide and extractor but don't have any spent cases and won't until the next time I am out with it. However, I don't really feel comfortable shooting it again until I figure it out.

I'll probably take it to the local Smith and have him take a look at it before then.
