    M&P Shield Ammo

What defensive ammo do you load in your 9mm M&P Shield?

I had Hornady Critical Duty in mine but heard that's a round best for a longer barrel.

Will Winchester PDX1 Defender perform well in the 9mm M&P Shield or is that ammo meant for a longer barrel?

    Federal HST 124 or 147.

Critical Defense is better for short barreled guns than Critical Duty, which as you said, is designed for longer barrels and defeating barriers.

My Shield isn't picky about ammo.

    Not sure about PDX1.

You owe it to yourself to read through this:
Lucky Gunner tests more than 110 different 9mm, 45 ACP, 40 S&W and 380 ACP handgun self-defense ammunition loads in ballistic gel with analysis and video.

Ahh good to see this again. Didn't realize they would update it, but yeah, lots of newer bullets and data. For my money, I stick with Federal HST's, just to keep it simple.

Jump on the bandwagon here, I use Federal HST for all my personal defense weapons; 124 grain HST for the Sheild.

124 grain HST here too. I was able to get it for $18.25 per box of 50, so I can put a lot more rounds of my HD ammo through the gun for the same cost than when I was using Critical Defense.

I use 115 gr Critical Defense. Non +p. Hst worked good too in my Shield, but the CD was more accurate.

Federal 9BP - cheap and always works; easy on the recoil.

My shield is a 40 so ... but it feeds Black hills 155hr jhp , 165 rem golden sabers just fine.
I use 115 gr Critical Defense in my G26 but mostly use HST's in all other 9's
Once the 115 gr Critical Defense ammo is gone the G26 will go to the HST's also just to simplify.

My wife's Shield has not been picky at all when it comes to ammo. 115/124 FMJ. Even hard cast lead, no biggie. For self defense, it's HST 147 grain +P. I reviewed the Lucky Gunner reviews/data linked above before deciding. Due to the short barrel, I didn't want to be shooting regular pee out of that thing. Need the stronger pee!
