Let us know what you find out. I have a USP Expert .45 and I love it. I would maybe consider a USP conversion to the Rowland if I move to big bear country. I love the Expert, but would probably buy a standard USP to convert to Rowland since I would be adding a new barrel, spring and a compensator anyway.

Are you planning to reload your Rowland ammo or will you be shooting factory loads? Any of the handguns you mentioned are strong enough to handle the 460 Rowland provided a proper conversion is done. Although I can't seem to find a conversion kit for the USP. It seems they have them for the Springfield XD, which you're not considering.

If I was dead set on a 460 Rowland I would pick a 1911 with a fully supported chamber. When you're dealing with 40K psi handgun round the weakest part would be the unsupported area of the case's web. The 1911 is proven in handling the 460 conversion. There are lots of aftermarket parts. If I was to build a 460Rowland I'd make sure it will feed smoothly to prevent bullet setback.

I have seen the 460 on a Springer XD. I like the XD line "most of it" But not sure that's where I'd go

Don't use the HK Expert. Go with the 1911.

I looked on the LoneWolf website and they only have Glock and S&W Shield barrels. Closed on Sat and Sun so I couldn't call. I'll keep looking and let you know if I find any H&K shops that do Rowland conversions.

JTROKS; both factory ammo and reloading. 45 acp, 45 super, 460.

MURDAJ: I'm leaning that way (1911). I'm just wondering if that's their opinion because the 1911 is the best choice, or because they are a 1911 house and only make a conversion for the 1911.

BMK20398, is correct, the Clark general recommendation is a carbon steel 1911.

WMG: I didn't see the xD on the roster when I 1st started researching, so I left it out. Anyway, I'd go HK if I went polymer. I just like them. I like 1911 the best. The only reason I'm not jumping on one is that I'm considering that my wife might have to use the gun if I'm down or not there. Point and shoot would seem like the gold standard for her in an emergency. Then again she could just carry my G17.

It's nice when other people advise me to do exactly what I want to do. As soon as my o/u sells, TRP here I come! Among many other good reasons, the 1911 is the only good choice ( in CA) for easily swapping barrels. With anything else I'd need to remove the compensator in order for the barrel to slip out backwards, which is difficult when it's pinned and welded.
