    Rock Island 38super GI

    Hello my felllow Calgunners,

I bought into the recent threads on a Armscor 51815 for a 9mm conversion, and I wanted to ask my fellow Calgunners if anyone has a Rock Island GI 1911 in 38super that has a ramped barrel? When I contacted Armscor thru chat (Sarah) and voice call they said they come with ramped barrels? My google-fu is out of fung-shui aparantly because I can't find any pics on it. And when I posted on 1911 forums one member said they came only in ramped frames?

    Thanks in advance
    Fred

First of all, I don't have a Rock .38 Super. But I have 4 Rock made barrels, 2 are 9mm and 2 are .38 Super. None of them are ramped.
A quick perusal of Advanced Tactical's website (they handle Rock's spare parts), shows no ramped .38 Super barrels. But they do show 9mm barrels in both styles.

The factory armscor 9mm government length barrel isn't ramped. I have a government length 38 super that I have swapped a 9mm barrel into with no other modifications. Are u talking about a commander or officers length?

FS. Funny how Armscor said it's ramped barrel. Try chatting with them or calling them. Now I gotta cancel my barrel order

My 9mm RIA Tactical is also non ramped. They could always be building some with ramped barrels now though.

I got one for the same reason 2 years ago. Got a 9mm barrel from RIA website and had it fitted by big shawn at RIA. $140 for shipping both ways the labor, polish and tuning.

                  Older RIA .38 Super 1911's used a non-ramped barrel.

The newer one's use a Clark / Para cut ramped barrel.

That's why Advanced Tactical carries both.

If that is the case then u won't be able to buy the new 38 Super in CA.

Why not? Didn't Armscor added some 1911's on the roster this year?

Informational for those wanting to do the conversion. Who knows when the change occurred. 38 Super RIA is on the roster. Buy one now while it is.

                          Older RIA .38 Super 1911's used a non-ramped barrel.

The newer one's use a Clark / Para cut ramped barrel.

Want to do the conversion? Look at the barrel. Non-ramped?, order the 9mm FS non-ramped from Advanced Tactical. Ramped?, order the 9mm FS ramped barrel from AT.

Just saying, if still on roster buy it now and don't look back. A ramp barrel change is not coloring change. Read up on it and u will know what I mean.

Unless something has changed, adding new gun on roster will required micro stamping.
