1911 Guru Question

Looking for information on some 1911 parts I acquired.

Purchased a box of gun parts and in the box were some 50 to sixty 1911 springs and 20 barrel Bushings.

A tag on the bag of barrel bushings read:
Caraville Arms "Exacta Ace" Barrel Bushing
Stainless Teflon Insert Barrel Bushing
Melt Bushing Design (Matches the contour of the slide)
.701 OD
.578 ID
.583 ID (aft of the Teflon insert)

Well, I don't have any real info on the bushings. The teflon rings make for a tighter fit on the barrel.

I did find an interesting article from 1982 on their Double Ace mod for a 1911.

The barrel in the article may have a bushing likes yours on it.

Caraville Arms, owned by Clarence A Raville, made 1911 parts. Including a squeeze cocking mechanism that worked off the grip safety.
They also made barrel bushings with a nylon insert that allowed for a tighter, centering fit that didn't require a lot of fitting.
At one time they had a shop out in Cal City on the Airport.

Are these thing a gimmick or do they actually help?

I don't see a whole lot of barrel bushings with rings out there. I know I have never tried one.

Not sure what the heat rating on that Teflon insert how long it will last.

JTROKS, I did some looking for the heat rating for Teflon.

It begins to deteriorate at 500F and starts to decompose at 662F.

I'm gonna give one of these things a try. The hottest Ive ever had a pistol barrel, with some pretty rapid fire, was nowhere close to that.

A couple of barrels/bushings I've fitted recently needed the bushing to be opened up to .580"... Not sure how you'll be able to "open up" the teflon, so you'll probably work the barrel to reduce diameter. Interested to see how these perform. The flange on the bushing looks short for government so it is probably for Commander sized slides, but it'll work for government nontheless. Have fun!

pklin1297, I think your right on the commander length. Only have a gov so I will probably just keep a couple to try just because they look cool and see if I can sell the rest.
