No, it does add a little weight to the front end tho.

Helps control muzzle flip, not recoil.

It helps with recoil by having a placebo effect on the people who believed the marketing.

Easiest and cheapest way to reduce felt recoil is to use grease and install an EGW oversized firing pin stop with a lightly beveled edge.

Take a look at Pachmayr wrap around rubber 1911 grips, and their rubber coated main spring housing. I have both on a commander and they do help with recoil.

Bushing style comps are not the best muzzle rise/felt recoil reducer as the gasses don't have much to interact with. Threaded comps are better due to the closer tolerances of the bullet's exit hole thus increasing effectiveness of baffles in redirecting more gasses upwards. It does more than just that when shooting high pressure rounds.

Not having advance knowledge of physics, but knowing how an air line acts when it has a cut in the side, I imagine it does. Whether or not it would make an appreciable difference is another question.

It depends on the cartridge used as well. .45 ACPs don't put out a lot of high pressure gases like a hot 9mm or .38 Super, so recoil comps in general don't work as well, and this one is open at the end so it doesn't trap the gas to help channel it up. (So to a lot of CGers, not me, that means it's a flash suppressor.)

It always seemed to me that these types of comps were only really good for providing a place to attach a suppressor. [Void where prohibited.]
I meant, it is my opinion that...

                          Helps only due to weight

I have shot my 1911 since 1978, and this was the best recoil tamer I have ever found for it:

Buy some reloading equipment and learn how to reload. The you can make as many "geezer load" low-recoil rounds as you like https://www.berrysmfg.com/pub/files/...adMarkwell.pdf It's what I shoot in my .45 ACP firearms. Or get a 9mm 1911.
                              Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.
