Question about Kimber Poly Pro Carry

Back in the early aughts, I wanted to try out a 1911. I had cut my teeth on all the hip, new and rad plastic pistols, and I figured for $550, I could see if .45 ACP was all it was made out to be. So I bought a "display" Kimber Poly Pro Carry with a single mag. After a few months and 2-300 rounds, I moved back to CA and found the price for .45 vs 9mm unappealing. So it's mostly sat int he safe until recently.

I say all of that to ask if I'm better off selling the thing and getting a better 1911 where things like mags won't cost me a fortune (if I can even find them), or trying to find a decent steel frame for this thing, or keep it for ****s and giggles as a reminder to research my purchases a little better?

I prostrate myself on the collective wisdom of Calguns. Thanks in advance.

There is a bit of a following for the poly version, so if you're not using it you could probably sell it and put the money towards a proper 1911. If it happens to be the double stack version I'd keep out of coolness factor.

Last one I saw was in the LGS marked at $650; that was about a year ago and I don't know what it sold for.

Is Kimber Poly Pro the same as the Kimber BP Ten II ? BP Ten has plastic frame and holds 10 rounds 45ACP. Picked one up in a trade, great gun, if i could get a CCW it would be the pistol for me.

It is indeed the polymer framed double-stack. 10 round mag, and I had a line at Brownells on more, but missed out. New mags now will run me in excess of $65 or more a piece if I can even find them.

I have a proper 1911 (SA Loaded MC Operator) but my time with that one got me bit by the 1911 bug again. I might just hang on to it for now. Thanks for the input.

Those are an Israeli made frame by Bul. Always wanted one. You may have to contact the original maker of the frames. Kimber had too many issues with the frames and quite producing them.

My Google-fu tells me it's similar. The slide is stainless and is stamped Poly Pro Carry, and the frame has checkering on the sides. Seems like the internals are all the same, though.

I would think a single-stack would make a better carry pistol, I know my Shield carries much better than my Glock.

I'd heard that, but I was hoping the slide, barrel and guide rod would fit a standard steel or alloy frame. Some searching tells me getting the internals going, coupled with the cost of a frame, would set me back some serious coin, so much that I might be better off selling it and buying a traditional 1911.

Here is the contact with Bul. I would ask them who their importer is. In 2014 it was supposed to be Battle Ready International but they no longer exist. Otherwise send it to Kimber and see if they will work on it. Probably not though.

Thank you for finding that information for me. I appreciate it. But see, there's nothing wrong, functionally, with the frame. Everything works just fine. There's nothing to work on. But if you want to change the grips, nope. Want a second magazine, nope. Stuff like that.

You may be able to get mags out of them. They have been imported by Charles Daily and others since Kimber.

MecGar still makes the Ten II mags. They aren't all that easy to find, but if you want some I'll track them down through my distributors.

Check with Greg Cote LLC. It looks like he has mags for your gun for $25.

Holy ****snacks! Thanks, guys. I'd all but given up (because of apparently using the wrong search criteria) finding mags for this beast.

I may grab a couple if only to bolster the re-sale price if I decide to part with it.
