    Speed Loader

    I just bought a S&W 586, 4 inch barrel.
Can anyone recommend a speed loader?
    Thank You.

I personally like the Safariland II speedloaders, they have a push/pull action. Another popular model is the MKS, with a twisting action.

I use both HKS and Safariland II. I prefer the push to release of the Safariland IIs over the HKS' twist to release.

I have HKS and Safariland speed loaders and I prefer Safariland. They hold the rounds more securely and are simpler to release.

I also use Bianchi Speed Strips. They are less bulky than speed loaders and only slightly slower to use.

          Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

I have used HKS for over 40 years. They are 100% reliable and easy to use.

I have some 5-Star loaders for my LCR. They seem to work pretty good. I haven't used any others though so I don't have anything to compare to.

Don't forget to buy a speed loader block. Safari used to make them. The plastic mold has 14 slots that hold 6 rounds each.

Dang, if I was smart enough to post pictures I'd show you two blocks that I own and use.

Safari is the more popular...for good reason. And the HKS are unquestionably the most durable. The big difference is the Safari won't release your rounds unless the cartridges are aligned with the cylinder chambers; while the HKS will release the instant the knob is turned no matter if the ammo is aligned or not.

Don't be afraid to buy at least a half dozen of them, and find a good place to store them for they get lost all by themselves.

"Mah...What the heck is this, this 'Thing'?"
''Oh, that's your father's reloading thinga-ma-jig, just put it back where you found it''.

when space saving measures is the matter and a flat contour is desired, i'm a fan of Bianchi Speed Strips.

One of my favorites. Go with the Safariland II.

                      Speed strips is so 1977.

And if memory serves me correctly, real men carried two blocks. Oh course real mean carried what they wanted but that's a story for another post.

I prefer the Safariland, push button style, over the HKS twist style.

Speed strips are less bulky for concealed carry when wearing light clothing. Also, some revolver grips make it hard or impossible to use speed loaders, whereas speed strips work with all types of grips. I have HKS and Safariland speed loaders, and Bianchi speed strips. They all have their advantages and disadvantages. I practice loading with Safariland speed loaders and Bianchi speed strips using dummy rounds all the time.
