    Ruger pistol value

A friend who's not really into guns asked me if I could tell him what his pistol was worth and I told him I would. Now I can't find any comps and I'm turning to you.

He has an old Ruger .22. From the picture he showed me I'm not sure if it's a Mk I or Mk II (I'm no expert) and it's not readily accessible to look at markings. It is not a bull barrel, so I don't think it's anything special. The last time he fired it some years ago it worked fine. But get this, some previous owner carved his SSN in the side.

So I'm stumped. What do you think it's worth?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Guess it depends on the credit score of the social carved in it

Pics and number of mags. would help, around $350.

Yeah, you gotta post pics or get the model number or something. Plus, that SS# sucks it up quite a bit I'd guess.

IMO $350 is a good start. Could significantly go up or down based on condition, or if it's a I or a II. GB has a I right now with a minimum bid of $328.

SSN carved into the gun will reduce its value significantly. Personally, I would not buy a defaced gun.

Might pick it up if it was significantly reduced price. Otherwise pass.

                      Is it Newsom's SSN?

Mark I had no bolt stop, as I recall. You could lock the bolt back using the safety, but no dedicated bolt stop. Bolt closed on an empty chamber after the last shot.

Mark II had the mag-actuated bolt stop.

Pick it up cheap, then take it to a gun engraver and see if he can do something to hide the SSN.

Which part has the engraved SS#?

On the Rugers the frame is a non serialized part. The barreled action has the serial number.

You friend may have a Standard Model easily identified by the fixed sight.

Frames can be bought without a Dros but good luck finding a decent one.

If a scratched up Standard model then well under $300.
