I would suggest taking it to the range and having the range master look at it and shoot it and advise you if you need to send it back for repair. Most indoor ranges have people that will help you. You stated you have only owned shotguns. Simi auto handguns do take some training. I see people all the time at the range limp wristing there Simi autos. This will cause a stove pipe type of jam. This is also a common problem when transitioning from revolvers to a Simi auto. If you have to send it back to Taurus be prepared to wait a long time. It took them over two months to fix mine PT111 when I sent it in to be fixed. I hope this helps….

My first sugestion is similar to sgtbuck's. Instruction is important. You happened to pick an handgun that is picky when you don't lock your wrist when shooting. There is nothing wrong with the gun. I would strongly recomend practice with a competent instructor though since you history is with rifles and shotguns, not handguns. They are an entirely different animal and "friends" do not know best.

Trigger control, sight picture and proper grip are the hallmarks of shooting a handgun.

        nixon,

I have the Taurus PT145, and through the first 50rds. I had a few issues. A few light primer taps, a few stove pipes and one slide lock back fail. After a couple of through cleanings, all issues cleared up. Now I have gone >300rds w/o any issues.

Taurus makes a great firearm, hope everything works out for you.
