Surefire Masterfire Rapid Deploy Holster - Worth it or another tacticool item?

Hey all,
I came across this while looking for holster that would fit Glock 17MOS/Surefire X400U setup. I like that SMRDH (Level 3) has thumb drive retention indexed by the weapon light, Allowing multiple gun use with same weapon light and holster. Bonus feature since holster angle rides lower, Allows users to holster weapon with suppressor mounted (Useless in Hellifornia )

Worth looking into or another tacticool item?

Worth it? Maybe.

I note that the Glock Store will do custom kydex holsters for $75.

The only purpose i see for it is if you need a can on your pistol. Its annoying that the regular X300/400 series dont work with it, therefore forcing one to re-buy lights just for a holster. If you dont need a suppressor, i see zero advantage to it over an ALS; which covers/protects more of the firearm. Given how easily i broke an X400U off a 1911 i question how easily it would be to twist and snap a gun off the locked light especially given how much surface area of the gun one would be able to grab. That locking screw is the weakest link of the entire -B series of recent surefire pistol lights.

Good catch Couch. I didn't realize SMRDH was only compatible with Surefire "H" Series weapon lights. I have X400U - A Series, Definitely don't want to have to buy a new weapon light (X400U - B Series = $595) just to use the holster.

Suppressors in Hellifornia? I only wish.. The idea of being able to use multiple different handguns with the same weapon light and holster was what I was attracted to. The cost of having custom holsters made for each handgun and weapon light combination would outweigh the $165 one time cost.

This holster will only be in the cards for those who do not already own Surefire weapon lights and considering buying one (Must be series "H" weapon light to use SMRDH).

Thats the thing, it doesnt even work for B lights. It works for the holster specific H lights

Double damn! Thanks again Couch. This will definitely rule out all interest now from everybody who already owns Surefire weapon lights considering buying SMRDH.

Correct. Unless you have a hookup, need to run a suppressor, department funding (i could see some wealthy SWAT units getting into a bunch, and i know of one OC Sheriff that currently has one), or just spend money on the latest and greatest, i just dont see the point.

A friend has one, so he lent it to me (along with a light) to try out on my G34 for an entire range session at Raahauge's. Let me tell you...

That. Thing. Is. Awesome.

Retention is great and drawing from the holster is super easy and super fast.

If you have any work-related need for it (SWAT, LE, etc.), I'd 100% give it a go.
