Sig 229 or HK USP 9MM

For a second handgun and first semi-auto any recommendations either way on the above. As an FYI first handgun is a S&W 686 Plus.

Thanks in advance for the input.

Are you exempt from the CA roster to be able to buy the P250?

If not then that narrows it down to the USP and the 229.

Out of those, I'd get the 229.

229 is smaller than the USP and has a better double action trigger. Size makes it easier to carry if that is your goal. The USP's grip checkering is a bit on the larger end as well. I also find that the thumb safety/decocker on the USP gets in the way of my thumb.

You know what, I did not even check on whether the 250 was CA legal. Based on your response I guess it is not so 229 or USP.

      Thanks for the input.

I probably would also. Don't forget to check out the HK P2000's. They are very very good guns.

Get the H&K P2000. Offers a universal light rail as well as 4 choices of back straps for hand size. Also lighter than the Sig 229.

If you're considering the Sig P229, then the comparable "compact" sized weapon would be the H&K USP Compact, or a P2000 (slightly larger, but not full sized like a USP). All three are outstanding firearms.

Unfortunately, the P250 is a no go in the PRK.

              was thinking the same...

unless you implicitly want the 229 -

the 226 and the USP are more in line

              while like taco points out...
the 229 and the USP(c) or the p2000 are more inline

keep in mind all above are going to be $700 - $800 -

my first 9mm was a cz-75 (under $500) was a few years ago, but still reasonably priced even in todays market...
