    S&W 1911s

opinions on those? I held one for the first time and well I liked it more than Ive liked any other brand Ive held out of kimbers, paras, and springfields.

It just clicked with me I dont know anyone who has one so I dont know to much about them.
I mean its a 1911 so I know its gonna go bang. But has there been an issues with them. Is there any better options for that price ?

This is just my opinion. I would rather have a 1911 without any firing pin safety. Of the S&W's I've seen the beaver tails fitting seems to be done with minimal blending. I like traditional internal extractors too. I also don't care for S&W propriety Novak cut rear sight which gives you only one option in rear sights (the one it came with).

I have a co-worker who carries a S&W and never had a single problem with it. He loves it.

Like I said just my opinion.

This is, of course, my opinion. I have an SW 1911 with the Scandium slide. It's VERY accurate, and VERY reliable. Plus, S&W has GREAT customer service. I don't see how you can go wrong.

While I DO carry S&W, I also carry SA, Colt, Nightforce Custom, etc. They all are brands I can stand behind...

+1 on the 1911 SC. I have a S&W Scandium frame and absolutely love it!! Very accurate and light also; compares to other .45's I brand I have seen. It seems that since S&W was purchased a few years ago by gun people, their semi-autos have gone from toss-ups to pretty good guns, starting with their 1911's and ending with their M&P lines.

which smith and wesson has the scadium frame? I like the look of the external extractor. With the sights only being cut for novaks couldnt i switch it out with his adjustable combat sights correct? If not Id just get the one with the adjustable sights. I see one of these being my next purchase with in a month or so.

I have 4 of them, and that should be an indication of what I think of them. They are very good 1911s if you don't insist on the original JMB design. As with any 1911, the particular gun's execution (how it's put together) makes a big difference in how it feels and performs. There are people who complained about high end $2k + 1911s, and I've seen some high end 1911s that have issues.

Test the fit/finish and functioning of the sample you will buy, to see if it's good. Most of them (out of 9-10 I've handled/shot) are pretty good. There was one that had a really heavy main spring and trigger pull. This is why I suggest testing it first.

I just picked up a SW1991PD with the tactical rail. i was reading through the instruction book and it says you can only shoot one brand of ammo otherwise the gun will blow up?

I bought my SW 1911PD back in 2007 and have been very pleased with it. I've probably put about 2000 to 2500 (mostly WWB) trouble free rounds thru it so far. If I was in the market for another 1911, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another SW.

I blame it for making kimbers from the great guns of yesterday to the crappy guns of today. Also, the external extractor just doesn't look right on a 1911 slide. Its alot harder to get a good trigger job done on a swartz safety gun. If I had to have a firing pin safety, I would actually prefer a series 80 style. S&W 1911's...not the greatest in my opinion.
How is it more difficult to get a good trigger job done on a gun with a swartz safety when it operates independently of the trigger? Wouldn't a series 80 be worse?

You obviously don't remember the very first year or so of Kimber's 1911 business.

the S&W FP safety has no impact on the trigger, or a trigger job. the external extractor works, some would argue that it works better than the leave spring internal extractor. It's definitely less sensitive and doesn't need "tuning". Why do you think all modern pistal designs use external extractors (glock, sig, beretta, etc).

You have to drift out the rear sights to clean the swartz safety.

                          Really? I didn't know this.

ALSO, the grip safety is affect by the swartz and I hear alot of reports of the grip safety being very hard to actuate as with this kind of safety, and alot of clicks instead of bangs when pulling the trigger.

Not true, at least not with my SW1911. The safety is extremely light, and I can't feel a difference. It's never stopped the gun from firing when it was supposed to.

ALSO, you have to be careful when assembling or disassembling the gun as you can't actuate the grip safety or the plunger will be sheared off when pulling the slide back.

It's not that weak. I'm sure you could break it if you intentionally forced the slide back repeatedly with all your strength without moving the plunger out of the way. But otherwise, I don't see it happening.

                            S&W 1911 SC Scandium

I have one of these that I picked up used from a member recently, and it is great. Reliable 100%, light, shoots accurately, and great customer service if ever you need it.

                            I don't think you can go wrong with a S&W 1911.
