    Beretta 96A1 damage?

I was cleaning my 96A1 and noticed this mark. Im not sure if its a tooling mark or a gouge from something when firing. It doesn't look like wear since the paint is still on the mark, Any Ideas?

96 is damaged straight from the factory.

Was supposed to be a 92 but the new worker bored the barrel too large.
    Thats why theyre so rare.

Looks like some ding-dong machine operator clamped the part on a chip and put a dent in the part.

You have a fake Beretta 96 that was made in China! There is a FAQ about it somewhere.

This. All 96A1's have it OP. Mine included.

I just dug mine out of the safe last week. Brought it to the range after over a year. Almost forgot how much I missed it. Love it.

Looks like a number 4 stamped into the metal.

Thanks man. I did not know that these were marked like that, My M9a1 doesn't have any sort of marks like that.

                    Your M9 is a 9mm.

I didn't notice it was a 4. It looked like a ding from a chip.

The 4 is probably short for 40 cal. The only difference between a 96 and a 92 is the breachface. The 4 allows workers to easily identify the slide.

Definitely, I dont usually like 40 that much but out of this thing it shoots awesome. I took it out yesterday and put 200 rounds through it and i did all right. My target at 10 yards, had a few flyers but did ok overall.

I kind of feel like an idiot now overreacting over nothing. I didnt even see it as the number four, all i saw is what i thought was a gouge in my slide, I freaked out a bit because its an off roster handgun;not very common.

It is definitely a stamp of the #4. It could be anything. A quality control mark, a mark from a specific manufacturing plant or a specific employee, a mark to indicate caliber, etc, etc. These marks are common on guns, seen mostly on European and eastern block guns.

The 96A1 use to be on the roster. I just looked, and it has been removed.

the elites have dots (round indention marks)on the brigadier slides in that same location. I have seen as many as four dots on a brigadier slide, though some just have two.
                              Must be a Beretta thing.
But they shoot fine as this part does not make contact with anything.
