G21 shoots the .45 ACP round.
G37 shoots the .45 GAP round.

The 1st common thing between the 2 rounds is they are both .45 caliber bullets and can be had in the same weights (185, 200, or 230 grains).

The 2nd common thing between the 2 rounds is they both have the same ballistics (same velocity at the muzzle, with the slight edge going to the .45 GAP.

The real difference is in the length of the round. The .45 ACP is longer than both the 9mm and the .40 cal. The .45 GAP is shorter than the .40 cal and a little shorter than the 9 mm. Yes, I said even shorter than the 9 mm.

The benefit of being shorter than the 9 mm round is the .45 GAP round can be housed in a gun frame that has the grip size of a 9 mm while the .45 ACP grip is substantially larger than the 9 mm grip. For example, the G21 in .45 ACP has a much larger grip than the G17 in 9 mm or the G22 in .40 cal. and is too large for some, if not most, regular-sized hands. The G37, however, has the same grip size as the G17 and G22 so you can have a .45 cal gun in a 9 mm sized gun. So if you want a .45 and have a hand that prefers a 9 mm grip then the .45 GAP gun is your answer.

I have a G37 and I do like the pistol, I had a G21 years ago and even with a Robar grip reduction it still seemed to be too big for a .45. If you have large enough hands you might be inclined to prefer the 21 over the 37, I have a very average sized hand and I still had the 37 grip reshaped to change the way it points for me. The major downside to the .45 GAP is the cost and availability of ammunition, which is just as expensive if not more so than the .45ACP and harder to find in the local stores. I have a good reloading setup with plenty of GAP brass so this is not an issue for me, but if you don't reload your own then the .45 ACP is probably a better choice.

For my ammo, I use the internet for my bulk purchase and compared to the .45 ACP, the .45 GAP can be up to -$3 cheaper per box of 50 in bulk.

For example, Federal 230 grains FMJ:
GAP: $199- 500 rounds or $350 - 1000 Rounds
ACP: $229- 500 rounds or $399 - 1,000 rounds

Availability is not a problem because if one store does not have it, another one will and they all ship anyway so there is no real difference there.

I will agree that if you are willing to wait for shipping then the web is certainly the best bargain for .45 GAP. I suppose the facts might be that the GAP is a slow mover so there will not be much incentive to price it any higher than .45 ACP. I have not purchased more than a couple boxes of factory GAP ammo myself, I bought 2000 Starline cases right after I got the 37 and I already had the Dillon 650 set up for .45ACP. I did end up getting a second complete toolhead setup to do the GAP with, just to simplify the procedure.

The G37 is the same as the G17 or G22 and is the smallest. The G21 is the largest and the G21SF is in about the middle. The G21SF is a better fit to my average hand than the G21 but still nowhere near as nice as the G37.
