    S&W Model 66-2 question

    Hello all,

I have owned my 66-2 for a while now and today discovered something that I'm not sure whether, or not is normal.

There is a small pin that goes through the under-lug which I'm assuming retains the extractor rod retention plunger and spring. No big deal there. What I noticed today though is that it protrudes much further out the right side than it does the left side. It seems tight and will not budge if I push something hard against it, so it's not a matter of me worrying as to whether, or not it will fall out. More so just an observation and curious if it's something I should keep an eye on, or not.

    Thanks in advance!

I happen to have a couple of S&W revolvers out to look at. On both the pins stick out slightly more on the left side than the right side. Without a picture it is impossible to tell if yours is of concern or not.

If you want to drive it in you would need a cup tip punch of the correct size http://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-to...s-prod656.aspx

Don't use any other type of punch.
    Revolvers are not pistols

pistol nouna handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel
Calling a revolver a "pistol" is like calling a magazine a "clip", calling a shotgun a rifle, or a calling a man a woman.

        Not a problem.

She is sticking out there plenty far.
Probably end up catching on something while you're operating having negative results.
Since I am a pacifist and don't fight , it would be fine for me and I'd be willing to buy it off you cheap ...... for your safety

I've seen them stick out a little farther on one side or the other, but never that much. It makes me wonder if the pin (locking bolt pin) has snapped in two. Probably not but you could check by tapping the pin back in with the cupped tip punch mentioned above and make sure the other end of the pin backs out a bit.

I'll check that when I get home.

Worst case, if that is what has happened is this a part I can get from Smith and Wesson? Is the parts official name called locking bolt pin?

Maybe not from S&W but they are available from Midway.

Yes, locking bolt pin. I had one that had a habit of working loose. I removed it, gave it a little tap in the middle to give it a slight bend and replaced it. Easy fix.
