G20sf and 10mm experience

I was worried about getting a 10mm based on people claiming it was a difficult to control round. But I got a bug to buy a G20sf so I took the plunge.

Took it to the range and shot some 185gr and 200gr FMJ along with some Barnes 155gr full copper hollow point.

The 200gr was pretty stout but more like 357 magnum out of my revolver... a mans round for sure but not uncontrollable. The 185 was dramatically lighter feeling, I'd say a pleasure to shoot, stout but only minimally so. The 155gr hollow point was so light it felt like shooting 9mm.

I have shot 40 S&W and hate it. Muzzle flip was always a problem for me and I worried that 10mm would be the same. Not at all. Unlike 40 S&W, I shoot 10mm as well as 9mm or 45.

I've heard this gun is used for bears. I have no experience with bears and hope I never do, but unless it was a grizzly I would feel fairly good about defending myself with a rifle and would never want to have a pistol stand between myself and the bear, but if I did, I'd prefer this gun (15 rounds of heavy load 10mm) vs the Ruger Super Alaskan with a few shots of 454 Casull any day of the week.

So for anyone worried about 10mm, just want to throw out a "don't believe the hype" report on the round and on this particular gun.

My 20sf shoots way softer than my j frame .38 special.

Full power 10mm loads from the G20SF have a lot of muzzle flip but not much perceived recoil imo. I would rather shoot Buffalo Bore 10mm from the G20SF than 124gr +P Gold Dot from the Ruger LCR 9mm.

The 20 is the full size right? Been thinking about that as a full size hunting side arm. Already have the 30sf in 45 as a ccw. Definitely a soft shooter. But think I'd want the full size with what is supposed to be a high recoil round. Always hated the twist of the 40 where as 45 was more of a push.

20 is the full size. I think the 29 is the compact version. They have a longer barreled one but I can't remember the number. Better ballistics with the 20 than the compact due to the longer barrel and fuller burn. I have the 30sf as well, they both rock.

I didn't like Glocks for a long time. Too blocky and boring. Not anymore, I think they're the bomb.

Oh I still hate the ergos and the triggers and sights so they are always an upgrade money pit for me. But I can't deny the accuracy, reliability, as well as upgrade options. Great thread though, I'm gonna have to seriously consider the 10mm since I'll be out bore hunting soon.

Rent one if you can and try some heavy loads. I thought it was a blast to shoot. Should be a good fit for hogs.

OP, unless you regularly buy buffalo bore or underwood, suggest you start reloading. 10mm is a reloader's round for sure and loading 'em hot it is even more fun.

Just put G20 SF in jail today, picked up 500 cases of starline and 180 gn Hornady HAP bullets. Trying to decide on what powder to use, either AA7 or AA9.

The only10mm better than the model 20sf is the model 40.

Thanks for sharing. I was trying to figure out what to buy - Glock 20 or 21. I ended up with a 21sf. I was going to get a g20 upper but for $135 picked up a LW barrel and 24lb recoil spring to run .45 super while pig hunting.
