The LED C4 Technology is no different than Cree, Soul, or MC-E emitters. Technically they can be made to function at a given voltage and require a certain amp draw, but it will still be an LED.

By that I mean the LED will last forever. LED's are the best at shock resistance and abuse. The only real world way to ruin an LED is if you feed it too much voltage. The light you mentioned will only work with 2 non-rechargeable batteries. If you were to put 2 rechargeables; that would be the end of it. Funny: you can beat the LED to death, but will not die. Put the wrong set of batteries and its gone for good.


FYI: I have the TLR-1 and it is build like a tank. For fun I have a G&P weaponlight because you can drop-in any P60 type LED. There are easily over 50 options of P60 drop-ins so I am still going through the endless possibilities with that weaponlight. With the TLR-1 it is perfect the way it is, I just wish I could drop-in a P7/MC-E LED for flood use.

Correct, but the C4 LED is much brighter and more efficient than the standard LED. The TLR-2 C4 is rated at 135 lumens, vs. 80 for the TLR-2. Quite the difference if you ask me. The tech powers are currently working on C6 and C8 LED's. So, an "LED isn't an LED isn't an LED."

That is good to hear. Brighter LED bins with equal or more runtime

to the OP: If what you want is durable and dependable any LED weaponlight will deliver. The streamlight is probably the best bang for the buck.

Note: The G&P weaponlight can be fitted with a MC-E P60 from Malkoff Devices and deliver 500 plus actual lumens for about 1.5 hours runtime. The G&P weaponlight however is cheap, but if you wanted the most lumens possible nothing will beat this combo. I ran my G&P with hundreds of rounds from a 357sig, 10mm, and 40 S&W. Yet, I like the Streamlight way more. Not as bright but the quality is equal to Surefire and others costing many times over.

In taking apart my TLR-1 the design of the TLR-1 & TLR-2 is not a drop-in design. You would have to send it back to them assuming they would want to do the upgrade for a set fee.

If you have some technical soldering and electrical skills you could drop-in another LED (Seol P4), but I have seen the before and after shots of others that have done the LED upgrade to the TLR-1 and there wasn't much difference. If I recall the CPF members thread the standard Cree emitters are not compatible with this TLR-1. That means no Cree R2/Cree Q5 variants are compatible for custom jobs.
