    GLOCK 22 SLIDE LOCKING

    Hey everyone,

So I have been having minor issues with my Glock 22 recently. So the slide locks back with no magazine in the gun only after the slide is racked once. The first time you rack the slide it doesn't lock but after it's cocked the slide will lock back if you try to rack it again. After you pull the trigger the process repeats and you can rack the slide once before it locks.

If anyone knows what's up please let me know, thanks!

If you've ruled out user error like an inadvertent support-side stoppage, take apart the slide stop lever and re-install to make sure the pin is seated properly

Maybe check your trigger pin. The slide catch is supposed to sit in one of the grooves on that pin. Sounds like it might possibly be riding on the fatter part of the pin, and getting hung up when the trigger resets, causing the slide to lock.

I have to assume you assembled the pistol wrong.

        Here is the fix:

        1. Remove the top pin (small locking block pin)
2, remove the bottom larger pin. (Trigger pin)
        3. Slide out the slide lever (slide stop lever)
4, install the top pin. (Locking block pin)
        5. #4 is very important. Notice that pin has a ridge?
You can see that ridge in your photo..
        6. Now. Focus. Slide the "slide stop lever" into position and notice
The wire spring bends UNDER the top pin (locking block pin).
        7. While you're installing the slide stop, push the larger bottom pin
From right to left, using your thumb to move the slide stop to line up
        The hole. Push it flush.
        8. The wire spring being UNDER the top locking block pin will prevent
The pin from sliding out because it hits that GROOVE. (Ridge)

You installed the slide stop incorrectly.

        OP

This is what the spring under the locking block pin should look like.

Installed correctly the pin will not "walk out" which indicates on your
Gun isn't installed correctly. The Ridge on the pin prevents the pin from sliding out.

        Be well
        Bob

          OP,

with no magazine in the gun, the slide should not lock back by itself. The magazine follower is what lifts the slide stop/release lever to lock the slide back on empty.

With the magazine out of the gun, the user has to manually move the slide stop/release lever up into the slide stop notch in the slide to lock the slide back.

So, if you have never disassembled your gun before (beyond field stripping), and assuming the gun is new, I assume your thumb is what lifts the slide stop lever...

If you have a used gun and you or someone before you disassembled the frame, then yes, it may not have been reassembled correctly.

The point is the slide stop spring is incorrectly positioned and it moves the
Slide Stop UP automatically locking the slide in the rearward position.

Wouldn't that be 100% consistent then? Sorry I never experimented with incorrectly placed slide release lever so I am not sure what the expected result would be.

As others have said, the most likely cause is that that slide top lever was not installed correctly. The upper pin needs to be installed first then the slide stop installed, and then the lower larger pin.
