Any thoughts on a Glock 37 in .45 GAP?

Please refrain from the obligatory "answer to a question nobody asked" comments. It isn't your joke to begin with, and we have all heard it already.

Okay, my main reason for asking is that it looks like you can pick these up on Gunbroker for around $250 shipped if you catch the right auction. And most of them still have working night sights. The magazines are a California-friendly 10 rounds. And it uses the same frame as a G17 and 22. If you swap out the extractor group, you can turn it into a 17 or a 22 frame, ready for slide. So is a Glock 37 worth it? I mean, a frame, Glock factory night sights, and you can leave it as a functional pistol in a caliber that is likely to be available during the height of any panic? Is the GAP round useful at all? It looks like HST and Gold Dot ammo are available for it. And while it isn't as cheap as 9mm, I am finding target ammo available online for $16/50.

    QUOTE]LOL. I heard/read those bone-head comments more than I care to think.

I've been tempted on the gap but never bit. I'd hate to take one of those slugs in the gut.

Question you should be asking is how available would ammo be next year. I don't care I can get a gun half off if I can't find ammo for it. Hell my G19 cost me 500 bucks after tax and dros but I've shot at least $1000 worth of ammo through it. Most people say that glock barrel life is close to 40k rounds. That's $8k of ammo right there. And change out the barrel for 150 bucks and go another 40k rounds.

It is like one person came up with that joke 15 years ago, and every keyboard commando just regurgitates it as soon as they see ".45 GAP" on any thread. Hell, I have probably done it myself. But the thing is, why? It looks like it is the same as .45 ACP when you stick with bullets 200 grains and under. I mean, I know it isn't anything spectacular. But it uses the regular sized Glock frame. All of your magazine pouches will work with it. And they are unbelievably cheap right now. At that price, is there something horribly wrong with them that wouldn't make them worthwhile?

Yeah, but as I mentioned, it looks like ammo is available. It looks like several state police and other agencies use it, so it should be around for a while yet. And in every panic we have been through in the past 10 years, .45 GAP was always available because of its relative obscurity. The odds of finding something locally would depend a great deal on where you live. But as long as the internet is working...

            I had a G38, sold it.

            1) Ammo is hard to find and with the new regulations on ammo, will be even harder to find.

            2) They claim it's 45ACP-esque, it's not

            3) The largest magazine you can get for it ever is 10 rounds.

            4) Unless you reload, it's more expensive than 45ACP.

            The pros:

G17/22 sized frame - Lots of parts are interchangeable
They are selling for next to nothing
            Holsters are dime a dozen
            Recoil is manageable but snappy

For what it's worth, I'd buy another one but only if I could find 10k pieces of brass to reload with and only if I could get one for around $300.

Other than that, it's not worth it for me.

Actually, I think people DID ask the question. When it came out the question was "Why is my Glock 21 so gosh darned fat?!" and the GAP was the solution to that.

If you are a reloader, then loading GAP is no different from people loading .38 super, or some nutty thing like Makarov or even stupid .380.

There is nothing wrong with the caliber except that it wasn't popular. But then look at 10mm ... it's not that popular either.

If you have all the other guns you want then, sure, buy one.

Glock rates their pistols to last for 100k rounds. Outside of 10 mm or hot magnum loadings in a wheel gun I think it'd be hard to shoot out a pistol barrel.
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

I own one and shoot it on a regular basis. I can say that I enjoy it a lot. I can put all 10 in the center of the target with relative ease. Very easy to control. I reload as well, so ammo isn't an issue for me. As others have mentioned, if you reload, then owning a firearm that's chambered in a caliber that's not "mainstream", isn't all that bad.

I have a 37 and 38. I like shooting it and have plenty of ammo
                          stored just in case

I also have parts, so I can always change calibers if need be.

I already reload more than 70 calibers. Adding one more probably isn't an issue. It looks like $249 total, shipped to my FFL. And I am finding ammo at $13/50. Screw it. I can always turn it into a 17 later.
