revolver guys & gals, how do you carry extra ammo

Howdy, Where and how do revolver shooters carry extra ammo? This has probably been asked before, links please.

Been looking at the 2X2X2 .38/.357 carriers and dump pouches w/ speed strips. For those that carry the Smith & Wesson J frames is there a preference between the "older" 2X2X2 style and the dump one? Anyone use the exposed 6 round w/loops on the belt?

    Thanks

Any recommendations for makers of the 2X2X2 and drop style in leather?

I generally don't carry extra ammo. If you have to shoot twice, you're not using enough gun.

HKS speed loaders. Been using them for years. 100% satisfied.

Nice. So no one uses the leather drop pouches, even with speed clips?

Anyone have problems with the HKS and/or Safariland speedloaders and the little S&W 5 shot J frames?

Stupid comment. OP I have some speed loaders but I don't carry a revolver. My revolver is more a sweet shooter then run and gun.

I'm more interested in the "Sport" side of things. However, out camping, hiking,
or scared out of my mind things might change.

5 shot clips ( S&W 640) seem delicate, the loaders are bulky, and the exposed (older cowboy style) loops bring attention. My pockets are already stuffed and it may not be easy to remove anything from them when scared out of my mind.

The primary choices for reloading a revolver quickly are speedloaders and speed strips, as mentioned above. I've never been a fan of the "dump pouch" concept as it's too prone to dropping the loose rounds.

If a belt pouch of some kind can be worn, speedloaders are generally faster and easier to manipulate under stress. However, carrying a cylindrical loader without a pouch can be indiscrete and hard to dig from a pocket quickly and effectively.

Speed strips have the advantage of being relatively flat and therefore easier to casually carry in a pocket (the above mentioned idea of using the coin/watch pocket in most blue jeans is a great one, I've done it before) but slower and more laborious to use under stress.

Either way takes a bit of practice. I recommend trying both and see which means works best for your situation. I'd venture that you will end up using both depending on your mode of dress.

Speed strips, and as stated above, practice often until you can do it with your eyes closed.
