It's CA legal, but it's off-Roster.

Since it is not listed on the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale, a CA FFL dealer can only transfer it via exemption (LEO sale, PPT, etc).

There are four .44Magnum Magnum Research Desert Eagle listed on the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale. The finish is the only differences between the listings.
Approved listed finishes = black, brushed chrome, polished chrome, burnt bronze.

You can get several versions of the Desert Eagle brand new in the versions mentioned above. I have seen several at Rifle Gear in the case up front.

Yes, it's legal in CA - not an AW, no threaded barrel, etc.

"Not on the roster" only means a dealer cannot transfer you a new one, but private party transfers (and a few others) are exempt from roster and good to go. If you find one used in CA for sale by a CA resident, you can purchase it.
