Quick answer, NO!!I'm a resident of California but I'm in the state of Florida right now for work my buddy that is a resident of Florida offered to give me a gun for some money he owes me is it legal to take the the gun off his hands while I'm in Florida and take it back hen work is through?
What you need to do is find out if the gun is on the "Safe Handgun Roster", if it is. Your friend can ship it to your Cali FFL and then you can DROS it.
If it is not on the roster, then you are pretty much SOL. If you have a Parent or a Grandparent who lives out of State, then you may have an option.
It would help if you told us what gun.I think it can be confirmed that an alien xenomorph is absolutely no match for good ole' Alabama black snake!

If you're in a survival movie and the hot blond twists her ankle and can't walk, you damn well figure a way to carry her. If it's a dude, you shake his hand and say "best of luck". -

General answer - unless you have a form of FFL, Feds say it's illegal to take possession of a gun out of state and bring it back to your home state. California requires all purchases to first go through a California-licensed FFL.

Do you own property in CA? or are you a renter here. How long will you be working in FL.
If you don't own property in CA and are in FL for at least 6 months you can change your residency to FL and register the gun in your name in FL then if you return to CA later you just fill out the DOJ forms for a new resident bringing his firearms with him. If however you really are a CA resident and are tied to the state by property ownership or income tax records or family still resident here while your away working then you have to send the gun to a CA FFL and do the DROS in CA when you get back here. The only other exception would be if your buddy came to visit here and brought the gun with him, then you could walk into a FFL dealer and do the PPT face to face and it would save you a bit of money.NRA Member
If "con" is the opposite of "pro" then is congress the opposite of progress?Comment

Not quite - it's still an interstate transfer, since the gun is owned by someone not a CA resident. That's not a PPT in the California sense, despite being a transfer between two private parties, and the FFL can charge whatever he wants for his fee.
Aside from that, it works the same as a California PPT.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page

so I didn't get a clear answer from this, Does it or does it not work? I Have a friend who is a North Carolina resident and he will be visiting me this summer. Can he bring a handgun that is not on the roster list and do a ppt at my ffl?Not quite - it's still an interstate transfer, since the gun is owned by someone not a CA resident. NO.
A roster-exempt PPT is only between two CA-residents that both appear at the dealer at the same time. It is not a PPT if the seller is an out-of-state resident.Jack
Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?
