    DOJ Form Help

So I have a 1911 that I want to convert from 45 Automatic to 10MM. What form do I submit to DOJ? Is it the Firearm Registration Form? I looked on their website and searched for caliber change and did not find an valid answer to this question. Any help is appreciated. Eventually I want to list this new converted gun on my Orange County CCW. No need to worry about the physical gun alterations/actions needed to do this, as I have that covered. If this is a complicated process, I'll just leave it as-is. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the suggestions. I will research them. As to the CCW question - I want to be able to have the weapon (10MM) on or about my person. This might mean in the car for traveling purposes, or out on the trail. So I'm not really intending to carry a full size 1911, although some people do.

My issue is strictly a caliber change and it wasn't a SSE but I will try the method you suggested. Thanks.

AFAIK there is no DOJ form because there is no requirement that you notify anyone of a caliber change. People change calibers all the time, some guns like Sig even have factory caliber swap kits available. The "registration" of pistols in CA does not require you to keep the gun in original condition and caliber forever, you can change anything you want so long as it stays a "handgun".

Now.. will having a modified gun be an issue for the CCW issuing agency? Maybe. Some (i've heard) don't allow any sort of modification on the gun you list on your CCW.

As an aside; I've always thought it was stupid that they make you list the guns anyway. OH, you're carrying your Ruger SP101 3inch??? Sorry, you are under arrest because you are only authorized to carry the 2.5 in barrel model you listed. Dumb, but here we are.

My IA only requires qual for the handgun and caliber it's currently in. For example, if I had a 9mm conversion barrel, I would have to qualify with that caliber as well as the original if I wanted to carry both. They would both occupy their own slot on the license.

It's possible the IA would have an issue with a conversion. It just depends, due to the arbitrary nature of CA law and individual IAs policies (or lack thereof).
