Glock 19 rails have pitting

Hey guys,
Got a glock 19 a few months ago and i've put around 2k rounds through it. Works great...

Today when cleaning it, i noticed that one of the rails had a chip in it. Its a very small pit or something and you can clearly feel that the rail is not smooth any longer.

Is this normal..should there be pitting or flaking or whatever there is?

I have some pretty old Glocks. From the early nineties, and none of them have any pitting. That is strange that this has occurred

Bought a new Glock months ago or a used one? Maybe warranted.
A single 'pit'? To rule out possible corrosion from unknown origin ammo.
Maybe it was there before shooting it and you didn't notice?
As said before, a good photo would help.

Brand new purchase.

I can't really take a good enough picture but it looks like a flake of metal has come off. It looks very similar to a paint job where the paint flakes off. Its very small right now but i'm assuming it'll grow...

Which leads me to the question of are the rails painted or coated with something?

And is it normal for them to flake off with time?

I have always heard glocks will last 30-60k rounds but if i'm seeing wear and tear on the slide rails after 2k rounds....that doesn't bode well.

Glock rails are chromed on top of copper layer. Pitting that u see is copper

It sounds like the anti-seize coating.

Probably just the chrome flaked off, it happens. I use grease not oil on my Glock rails. I wouldn't worry about it, but you can always call Glock and see what they say.

No need to worry. U can use grease or oil. Chrome does flake off and if you shoot +p ammo it will accelerate. Also 45acp and 10mm glocks's chrome flakes off faster than 9mm. No problem all good

So basically...it appears that its the chrome plating or whatever the slide rails are plated with that is flaking or chipping off.

I called glock and they said it was normal and that it would continue up to a point and then stop. I frankly don't buy that....i don't think the rails should be flaking to any degree but i'll keep using it and see what happens.

My glock 21 doesn't have any flaking at all as a comparison....but from looking online, it appears to happen with some glocks.

It is a Glock and chrome flaking is normal. Most certainly u will not shoot enough to wear out 9mm glock. If you are rare 0.1 % who shoot so much and wear out the glock rails, glock will replace your gun. They stand behind their product and have superb customer service.
