1911 Mag Release Button

Been shooting my Springfield TRP for awhile now and one thing I've notice is that I have to adjust my grip when reaching for the magazine release button.

Considering the Wilson Combat extended magazine release button. Figure the extended reach will be similar in function as the extended mag release button I have installed on my Glock. Anyone else got midget hand problems with their 1911? LOL

On a single stack frame, extended are nice for range and competition use.
Be sure to check your gear / holster to make sure there are no contact issues due to the button sticking out more.

For my double stack frame, range or comp use is a standard height one since for that type of gun it sits tall as is.
For carry use to prevent accidental mag drop / loss, I have a lower height one that has been shortened so it has to be pushed just below flush to release the mag.

I do like the sandpaper grips from Springfield and I think the G10 grips that also came with the TRP has the thumb relief in it (sandpaper grips doesn't have them).

I'm aware of have the extended mag release interfering with daily carry. I had to file the corners down on my Glock mag release because it would dig into my skin.

What is the time difference in your reloads between your Glock with the extended release, and the TRP without?

Haven't timed it and reloads with my Glock feels faster than the TRP. Able to quickly reach without adjusting grip. Granted we are talking split seconds here so for some people this is negligible.

This is what I did. They have lighter springs too that may help you.

Have one on my match gun. Made a world of difference not having to adjust my grip when dropping mags. Kept the std spring in as i don't like a super light mag release.

I have smaller hands too. Here is my IDPA ESP gun:

Short Wilson Trigger
Low Wilson safety
Extended Mag release
VZ thin grips, along with the universal bushings and screws
Wilson one piece maxwell. I did the blending and it came out pretty good for a hack with a dremel tool.
All this stuff does help along with an action/reliability and trigger job by 1911whore.

I have a P9 that came with a big giant mag release, and it's no better than a normal one. I think you can shift the gun in your hand while you're bringing it up for the reload. Then shift it back when you bring the weak hand in. I doubt the standard release is costing any time.

The one I have is old school, but I don't have to shift my grip. All is needed is my thumb to move and press the button for a quick release. I wouldn't advise it for a carry 1911. For range use it's awesome!
