    Glock 34 picky with ammo?

Have a new G34. First trip to the range, it would fail to eject or fail to feed on nearly every magazine. Always the first or second round. I was shooting "Federal Champion" 115 grain 9mm, new out of the 100 round packs (Walmart). Same issue with both mags.

Subsequently I have run three other brands of 115 gr. through it without issue -- Remington, Freedom Munitions, and the house brand stuff from a local range. No malfunctions with any of that ammo. Then I put some Federal Champion in it and dang, at least one malfunction on almost every magazine.

I am more than a little surprised, because the same ammo has always been flawless in every pistol I have used it in. And after hearing all the talk about the legendary reliability of the Glock, I finally buy one, and thus far it is the least reliable pistol I have owned (of many).

I did clean and lube it when new, and after the first trip I disassembled the slide and thoroughly cleaned the extractor.

What are your thoughts -- is it just the case that Glock is picky about cheap Walmart ammo, or should I look at this as a problem with the pistol?

I also have a Glock 34, and I can't say I've had issues with certain types of ammo. I do remember having a couple odd failures to eject in the beginning when I first had the gun new, but all those went away after a few boxes of ammo. Btw, I've shot plenty of of the Federal Champion from Walmart and its never really given me issues.

Glocks have been my only guns that fired everything consistently through them. Bought Russian brands before that my cz's and HK's had trouble with but the glocks had no problem.

My G34 runs great except when my wife limp-wrists it.

New like BNIB? Could be tight mag springs if it happens on the first and second. Try to load down the mag to only 8 and see if you have the issue, 115g does not blast back as well as 124 or 147 etc. Stripping that first and second round with a really tight spring may cause a little slow down on the slide. IMHO

Did you try that Federal ammo in other guns (this exact batch of ammo, not 'I've shot a bunch of this ammo before')? That would narrow it down to either something gun related, or something ammo related. I'd be more likely to guess it's an ammo issue as you ran many other brands through the G34 no problem.

Wow, surprised. My G34 III has been problem free.

Mine is not picky with ammo. I do run a lonewolf barrel in it though (so I can shoot my lead reloads, something they don't recommend with the stock polygonally rifled barrel).

What gen? I had that problem with my gen 4 g34. Changed out the springs in the upper. But not the rod spring, just the trigger assembly springs. I did a whole bunch of research , including calguns forums, then by changing these out, flawless. 147 or 115 grain. Spent like $14. Sorry I can't remember pull weights, it was a long time ago. Not telling you to do this just sharing my experience.

I've found that cheaper 115gr. out of a new Glock is a little unreliable. I've started using 124gr. in a new Glock to break them in. I have no scientific proof, they just seem to run better if you start with 124gr for a few hundred rounds. I highly doubt the issue is with pistol.

Only malfunctions I have had were with an aftermarket spring kit and causing light strikes on the primer. Went back to stock and no issues...G26,G19,G17,G34,G21,G30

Odd. Mag issue? Not familiar with gen3, but my gen4 Glocks eat everything. Then again, I bought them all used.
