Range Report -- New CZ Kadet 2 with CZ75B

Well, after Buds would not ship a Kadet kit to California (misunderstanding by them of the laws here) it was Grab A Gun to the rescue, and almost $50 less money too! The kit arrived three (3) days later, and with some trepidation I fitted it to the CZ75B (40 S&W) lower frame. I am happy to report that it fitted perfectly (and tightly!). I used the stock slide stop although the kit comes with two slide stops marked ".22LR". I couldn't see any real difference between these. A subject for more examination on another day.

My first impression is that the Kadet kit mated to the CZ75B frame is a really, really nice .22LR rig. All-steel construction, adjustable rear sight, a three-dot sight (which I really like) -- it really leaves nothing to be desired in terms of fit and finish. In no way does this look like it has been "Frankensteined" ... if CZ sold these as a separate stand-alone gun (do they?) I think that they would sell a lot of them.

    Here is a pic.

I got the gun to the range with a box of "Browning Performance Rimfire" .22LR ammo, which is essentially bulk ammo, lead round nosed, 1255 FPS velocity 40 grain ammo. I have found that it runs great in my Ruger Mark III pistols. Well, it ran great in the CZ Kadet as well. Out of 200 rounds I had zero feeding or function issues excepting one round which failed to fire on the first strike, but which fired fine on the second double action strike. Given that the frame of the gun has had a trigger job, I worried about a light strike issue. I had none.

The gun was almost zeroed at the factory; I moved the groups slightly (one click) up, and two clicks to the right, and that was it.

The slide did not lock back after the last round in the magazine. Not sure if this is a characteristic of the Kadet or whether I maybe need to use one of the two supplied slide stops. Experimentation is obviously in order.

Accuracy and precision were OK. I was not having one of my best days; probably because I was focused more on making sure the gun functioned than on my marksmanship. Here is my last target of the day, shot at 10 yards.

Obviously I need to work on my marksmanship. My groups improved throughout the relatively short range session.

Anyway, I am quite pleased with this setup! Hope someone enjoys this range report. I had been curious about the Kadet kit for a long time; so I hope a few questions are answered here.

Very nice. I never looked if my slide says "Kadet 2" on it as I thought the differences were all internal. Mine locks back on the last round maybe 25% of the time. Lucky your slide to frame fit is tight. There is a reason factory tuned CZ models have very tight slide to frame fit also.

Mine runs all .22lr ammo well. Golden Bullets all the way up to Eleys.

I learned from this forum that there were factory Kadet pistols, but they have been discontinued by CZ. And besides, they were not on the CA Roster anyway. Ones you find for sale now fetch crazy prices on GB, I gave up looking. The only difference is the matching serial numbers anyway.

How do you like loading those magazines? Kind of rough on the thumb, isn't it?

One tip: Do not mistakenly insert your 9mm (or possibly your 40) magazine when the Kadet slide is used. It would be a b*tch to remove.

    Enjoy.

Good info, Beanz2. Yes, the mags were no fun to load. I ordered 4 more from Brownell's, and I am going to pick up a .22lr Lulu at Turner's today.

Very happy with the Kadet setup. It really is a terrific rig. Going to the Range on Sunday, and I will try one of the supplied .22lr slide stops and see if that causes the slide to lock back. Not a big deal, but why not?

I am surprised that CZ discontinued the Kadet stand-alone pistol but as you say, it would not be on the California roster anyway.

Good tip on the 9mm/40 S&W magazines. I'll be careful not to make that mistake.

        Nice report.

It's going to be a Glock day for my weekly range session but I guess taking my Kadet II on my CZ SP-01 along won't hurt.

I love the Kadet so much I bought another one.

Use the slide stop that came with the Kadet then the slide will lock back every time on the last round.

Kind of thought so. I'll do that and report on the results.

Nice review! I have .22 uppers for my 1911s and Browning HP, I'll have to add one of these for my CZ75BD.

Thanks for taking the time to do a nice, professional appearing review.

The Kadet 2 just gets more fun the more you use it. This saved my thumb😜.

I love my kadet kit. I user a lighter hammer spring, so it gets light strikes. Just an fyi, if you plan to change to a lighter spring.

Had a trigger job but had no light strikes shooting 200 rounds yesterday.

Received my Kadet yesterday. Installing it was easy. I tried sliding it all together at first and saw that I just had to remove the thick coating/finish on the abbreviated front rail section that goes into the frame of the pistol in order for it to go together. I used a small file to get it off, about 5 minutes todal.

Shot it today with Remington golden bullet ammo. Just shot it at steel plates but it hit where it was pointed, worked perfectly and locked open on the last round in each magazine.

Much higher quality than my Ciener kits for my 1911 and High Power pistols although for the price of a complete firearm the Kadet should be high quality!

I recommend the Kadet II kit.

Put the .22 Kadet on my cz75b SA 9mm frame and it is one fun gun to shoot. Took a bit to get used to no recoil. Has cycled with every kind of .22 ammo run thru it. Had to do some minor fitting for a snug fit. I Use the Kadet slide stop and it always locks back on last round.
I had a guy named Dennis modify my Uplula mag loader and now loads kadet .22 mags with ease. The loader loads up to .45 as well. Highly recommend the CZ .22 Kadet.

I got a Maglula loader of amazon that works with my Kadet mags. Here is the link:

Kinda expensive, but saves on the thumb.

I just put a cajungunworks short reset system with the blue hammer spring in my cz-75sa, and I am betting it won't set off .22. I haven't had a chance to try it yet. No big deal though, changing to the stock spring when the Kadet is on the pistol is pretty quick.
