2 Pythons for 1?

I've been contemplating something for some time, and thought I'd reach out to you all to get some thoughts. I've always wanted a 4" Python that was in the excellent condition, with the box. One that I wouldn't be afraid to put a few rounds through every so often, but also be able to admire and be a bit of a safe queen.

Currently I have two Pythons; a 6" in blue and a 4" in blue. Neither have boxes, but the 4" may have the original grips. The 6" does not have the original grips, and has some minor handling marks/scratches in the original finish. I've owned the 4" for about 18 years. It has been refinished, but the trigger is absolutely amazing.

For me, the 4" is by far the most appealing barrel length for the Python, followed by the 6". What I'm thinking about is selling the two I have to fund the purchase of a 4" like I described above. I've also thought about keeping them both, and since the 4" has been refinished once already, send it out and have a high-end refinish done.

On its face I know it may not make sense, but that's what I'm thinking about. Any thoughts?

IMO, it mostly depends on IF you have a collector bone in your body....or not

The only reason to sell one, or both, is to get a collectible-type Python. Neither one of yours has any collector value. If you want a shooter, no reason to sell both just to buy a "nicer" one that you can shoot. You'll quickly diminish the value of the nice one, too.

Maybe you sell the 6" if you want money to buy something else....whether it's toward a Python or not.

If you want to shoot a Python and like the 4", keep it, as it's refinished and value burned.

Not sure why you'd bother with another refinish on the 4".... it will never regain value and just get shot all over again. Seems like wasted money.....

Guess if I was in your shoes and wanted a shooter AND something to value....I'd shoot the 4", and sell the 6" and put that money towards a nice one.

Myself, my 1st Python was a 6" pristine blue, but didn't have the original grips. At first I bought it to shoot, but quickly realized I had other revolvers to shoot and wanted a collectible. The lack of original grips was a collectible-killer. I sold it within a month for $400 profit and bought a mint, unfired 4" blue with an original box. I don't need to shoot it....I have S&W Model 27s and a Performance Center 686 Competitor and have shot 686 prelocks....all the same stuff, shooting paper.

Erion, you make some good points. I get what you're saying about being a collector, and there may be a bit of that involved. That being said, I'm pretty much over having anything in my safe that I won't or don't shoot. It wouldn't be something that would see that much range time, so I wouldn't worry about any value that I might lose by the occasional range session. As far as refinishing the 4" I have, I just like to make things look the best I can, and I have so little in it I would still be money ahead if I decided to sell it.

I think the box thing is kinda where my collector gene kicks in, but I think a LNIB 4" would work as well.

4" Python is a looker for sure and handles well. Any gun that's refinished
has 0% Original finish and reduces value considerably,although with
Python values being what they are,after the reduction you still have a
healthy piece of change. I'd put the original wood grips on the 6" if it's
still original finish.
