    Tungsten FLGR 1911

Ok, i am the type that cannot leave good enough alone. I just picked up my TRP on monday night. Well i am not a fan of two piece guide rods and this has one. I have thought about putting a GI style guide rod in place of the original, but cant bring myself to do it yet. I guess if i could find a really nice recoil spring plug that i liked i would.

What i would like is a one piece tungsten guide rod. Does anyone know of somewhere that has them in stock?

Prob doesnt make that much difference anyways, if someone can find a badass stainless standard recoil spring plug let me know and i might go the GI route. Either way the two piece crap has to go, a 1911 should not need an allen wrench to take it down.

I have a Kimber tungsten guide rod on my Kimber Stainless II. I like it.

Here's some places to get some...no, they are not cheap, but does tame recoil a little.

I personally like the G.I. style guide rod in my TRP. Functions flawlessly and much easier to take down.
The "best" handgun caliber debate rages on, meanwhile I just keep buying low recoil 00 buck.

1-pc guide rod is easier IMO. If I just need to mess with the frame I just need to remove the slide stop and the top end comes off without any hassle from a plug and spring. Reassembly is easy.

If I need to remove the guide rod it is similar to removing a GI plug and no tool is needed.

im not grasping the concept, do you just remove your slide stop while the plug is still in place? Isnt it a B to hold the slide back with a heavy recoil spring? I guess your not dealing with the mainspring so long as it is cocked, but still seems like a B.

My views are similiar to TSG's. I use a FLGR so that I can separate the top and bottom half and do a "quick" clean (wipe down feed ramp, slide and frame) and lube for the next range trip.

A magazine can be used to take out the plug, spring and bushing if I choose to take it all the way down.

                  Tungsten guide rod

                  XX,

Given that the TRP is a heavy pistol, I elected to put a stainless EGW guide rod in my TRP. However, if you want tungsten, I've used EGW's full-length tungsten rods for several years.

I'm not certain that the tungsten rods are on EGW's web site any longer, but they do still build and ship them. But they're pricey.
