I called the GlockStore and they said it is legal and they can sell it to CA residence. they told me just don't shoulder it or it becomes a SBR.

It adds restricted features (barrel shroud, second handgrip) to a semi-auto pistol that accepts detachable magazines. [PC 30515(a)(4)(B)&(C)]

In order to be CA legal, the semi-auto pistol needs to operate using a fixed 10 round magazine.
The fixed magazine needs to be contained in the firearm and can not be removed without disassembling the firearm's action or needs to be welded/epoxied/riveted into the firearm's magazine well.

              Summary:
              1. By it self (unattached), it is CA legal.
              2. It is only CA legal, if it is attached to a semi-auto pistol with a fixed 10 round magazine.
              3. If attached to a semi-auto pistol that uses detachable magazines, then it is considered an assault weapon. (Felony for making an unregistered assault weapon)

I got to partake in a demonstration of these by CAA CEO Mikey Hartman with the Recon, The Sigbrace style, and the SBR. They are actually more practical than I would have thought, perfect for Home Defense. The optional light, the Sig Brace, the optional top rail for optics, thumb rests, angled front grip... A lot of features. Plus, a Glock finally gets a "safety" with the device's trigger cover.

Too bad about the barrel shroud classification.

Couldn't you just register one of the glocks you owned prior to 2017 as an AW since they changed the definitions and still be able to use this kit?

Only after you pay a $200 tax, I would hope.

Well, one can have it or the glock without the tax. If you get both you have to first pay $200, of course. But it doesn't flock around with any of the Glock gubbins, and I believe I could trust it to function properly.

                          Unlike the OP device.

Oh, and even WITH the tax it's about the same price.

No, because the Glock did not meet the 2017 definition of an AW prior to 2017, and if you installed one of these prior to 2017 without a bullet button, it would have been an AB23 AW (still illegal, thus not lawfully possessed prior to 2017)

If you DID install one with a bullet button in 2016, according to the (withdrawn) DOJ regs, you would not be able to remove the BB.

That would make an awesome home defense weapon, especially if you put 9 inch barrel in it.

Of course, in CA, you can't just pay your $200 and be good. Chances of getting a SBR in CA, unless its for a movie prop, are so close to zero as to be statistically insignificant.
