Prosecutors love confessions because they obviate other evidence. As long as confessions are freely and voluntarily given, they'll seal a conviction. That's because jurors get to hear and see (if video recorded) defendants' own words confessing to all elements of crimes. Prosecutors know that even the best physical evidence is fallible. But a legally admissible confession is a burden that is most difficult to defeat.

Someone from the tin foil hat crowd may suggest that the 'test' fired round that the factory shoots before sending your gun to the gun store, is not a 'test', but rather a secret rule requiring all arms manufactures to fire, recover and store in a secret government database, said 'test' round.

Actually, it's done for just that. Maryland had this database, until they got rid of it in 2015 for being useless in solving crimes.

At the trial of Brandon Mayfield, an attorney from Oregan, for the terrorist bombing of trains in Spain in 2004. It was proven that there are people in the world that share all the characteristics of fingerprints. Every major LE agency in the world, including the FBI and Interpol swore his fingerprints were on an unexploded bomb found in a van in Madrid.

They were proven wrong. His fingerprints matched "exactly" the fingerprints of an Arab terrorist from a middle eastern country.

My post was para phrased from memory, of an expose of forensic evidence abuse documentary at the time. Which was 13 yrs ago. If per chance, that documentary was presented in a biased, way that left out, or skewed relevant information. That was not of my doing.

If a suspect is arrested at a scene with a firearm in possession. That would be one damning scenario.

But if the suspect leaves the scene with the firearm. For any lenght of time. I would, if on a jury, consider that a broken chain of evidence.

Anyone with any DIY skills at all, can watch a YouTube disassembly video. Utilize an Arkansas or carborundum stone and a can of Clover valve grinding compound. And make a firearm used in a crime totally indiscernible to any forensic evidence left at the scene. In the way of cartridge casings.

Same can of "Clover" and a soft lead bullet ran down the bore 20 or 30 times. [lapped] And the rifling striae, are also different enough to be exclusory.

TV producers, just like Ca. Politicians. Make cops jobs harder, and criminals jobs easier.

People don't talk that way. Conversations naturally transition from topic to topic. It's how knowledge is fleshed out.

And yes, I can connect every post in this thread to handguns. All the US Supreme Court has to do is declare that the Second Amendment doesn't mean what we know Madison intended it to mean, and your handguns will be confiscated the following day.

Physical evidence can be misinterpreted causing you to be charged with a felony you didn't commit causing all of your guns to be confiscated.

Learning is almost entirely limited by self-imposed limitations. The wise always look for opportunities to learn.

Finally, I'm naturally suspicious of anyone who advocates censorship for any reason.
