I am thinking that accuracy isn't dependent on a barrel bushing. But, I don't have enough experience to stand behind that.
I totally understand. John Browning had a great design. It is beautiful weapon. I also get that people don't like change or modifications. There will always be purists.
However, if JMB was alive today, other than probably designing another firearm that would be come a staple for the next 100+ years, do you think he would be opposed to a bull barrel design? Do you think he would embrace it? I think he would have. I think that at the time, less parts, quicker build, easier field strip would have been desirable.
I don't think certifying 1.5" groups at 50-yards was a criteria back in the early 1900's when he was designing the 1911. Additionally, it isn't practical to mass produce tight fitting weapons for war. Finally, it isn't uncommon for unexperienced folks to struggle with a tight bushing. That would be bad for business on the battlefield.Signature requiredComment

?
You are thinking that is easier to fit a bushing to a slide and the bushing to the barrel is easier than just fitting a barrel to the slide?
Bull barrel has the advantage of additional weight near the muzzle which is desirable to some shooters, including myself.
