    inherited firearm

    Hi All,
How do you check the status of a firearm that you inherited? What are the rules? Must it be registered at that point? Can you sell an unregistered gun.. legally..?

    Thanks,

    Al

What state do you live in? In CA you must report firearms that you inherit

You cannot check the status of a gun. Only law enforcement can. You can sell the gun in a PPT at a FFL. There are hundreds of thousands of unregistered guns in CA, they are legal and so are the people who have them.

You don't specify handgun vs longgun, when the gun was obtained by the deceased, when the person who inherited got it, etc. what states did the two parties live in (deceased and inheritor). That would further the info we could give you.

Also, wrong forum. This goes to 'How CA laws apply to / effect me'
