I would get the sig over the 1911. I owe a nicer 1911 ( dan wesson silverback) and still prefer the sig over it.

^^^ Is that a 310 Night Guard? If so, any issues with the frame?

Yep. Its a 310, im probably the 3rd owner. The previous owners didn't shoot it much. I only fire 18 round so far. The frame seem fine

But first we have to ask, what is your purpose for a 10mm 1911?

I have a Kimber Eclipse in 10mm as well. Only likes to eat good ammo. I've been buying a lot of the SigSauer 180g FMJ's that snaps back stouter than usual. The Kimber seems to like eating that a lot. The weird thing was that it starting to nick the guide rod. How, I have no idea but when I called Kimber, they sent me a new SS guide rod and spring with no questions asked.

G20SF, I love it that one & my G29SF love that one too and it only eats defensive loads.

I don't have a nice 10mm collection..., yet... I've been toying with the idea to re-chamber a Ruger GP100 into a 10mm. Maybe might just turn out to be a novel idea...

For the budget you have, buy anything you want. If the 10mm bug bites you there are so many platforms to choose from now. I don't think 10mm will go anywhere soon.

            Good luck!

Get a 2011 frame and build one with a 6" slide and bull barrel. That will tame the hottest 10mm load.

No brainer for me. Dan Wesson RZ 10. Not on the roster though.

None are on the roster except for the Kimber AFAIK. You might consider buying a donor 1911 in .45 and have a builder build it how you like. If I was looking to spend $5k, that is what I would do, especially in this state. In that case, I would go with a Stainless Springfield GI. Excellent (bones) for a custom. Or, a Dan Wesson. But that would eat into the build funds. What ever you do, make sure the builder puts in a ramped, fully supported barrel.

Here is what happens to full house 10mm loads in an unsupported chamber. lol

If you are into rails, the new Delta Elite Rail Guns should be out soon if you just leave CA or you have a relative to gift you one.

I can't speak for that price point but I did pick up a Rock Island 10mm for well under $1000 back when there was still SSE. It comes with a fully supported barrel but did not like to cycle with full power 10mm loads. I sent it in to Rock Island and they replace a few springs and polished the feed ramp. It now cycles everything 100 percent. I have even shot 40 S&W through it just to see if it'd cycle weak loads. I have about 200 rounds through it and there are no signs of any stress on the slide. Don't buy a 10mm unless it has a fully supported barrel.

I'm sure somewhere in the bylaws and "whylaws" there is an ADA compliance mandate that says you must install ramps for feed-challenged and pressure-stressed ammo.

Poor thing; I say anything chambered in 10mm should be exempt from the Roster as it qualifies for a special-needs class.

For this reason, plenty of 10mm ammo is advertised with special notations that state "do not use in X-brand gun" (which usually the Delta Elite is cited) or "do not use in guns without fully supported chamber".
